total rebuild MOT

After the wifes IRD total shattered the caseing decided to do a complete rebuild of her freelander so after 9 months (sorry for the wait dear) , new head gasket kit, second hand IRD , new brakes, steering and suspension overhaul and putting it back to 4wd as we bought it as a 2wd its now ready for MOT witch is booked for the 4th October o hopefully may earn a lot off browny points

Well done - but be careful!

2nd hand IRDs are dodgy - you don't know the history and it may have been abused by poor VCU/tyres on its donor vehicle.

You don't mention anything about VCU or tyre replacement - once again be careful. If you've used the original props/VCU do the 1 wheel up test to make sure the VCU is alright - I've run mine as 2WD but with props in place and pinion gear missing (so VCU is permanently dragging the front prop round) for a year now and I did a 1 wheel up test the other day and the VCU was basically siezed. You should be careful on the tyres as well - they may have been OK for 2WD - but make sure they're all the same make/model/wear if you're running 4WD.

As I say - well done, just a couple of words of caution so you're good work isn't undone!

all running on BFG allterrains at 8mm off tread on all 4, done the 1 wheel test all seems ok, the guy I got IRD off gave up on his freelander for a 90 better offroad for him so I know IRD was looked after as I know him and his car. Its been good to do the work but got nowt to do at the moment so going to do head gasket and cam belt on my disco.
