Torsion spring genius apply here

I've got an early Defender with a 2.5 petrol and a weber dmtl carb.
I had a little issue and stripped the carb down. It's running great but I have an issue.

The torsion spring for the choke return mechanism has eight turns on it to keep the tension and fully disengage the choke.
I've only just managed to get seven turns on it with a lot of swearing and needle nosed plyers and dental floss to pull it round.
Any ideas on how I cab get another turn on it, under tension, with really poor access (even with the carb off and in my front room!)

Its great to have an understanding wife who allows you to take your landy to bits in your living room, does she let you clean the parts in her dish washer (dish washers are really great for this)

that's pushing it right out there btw do we have to use finish tablets

Oh I very much waited until she was out.

I've had another look at it and I think maybe disconnecting the arm which connects to the flap mechanism might allow the whole lever to rotate through 360°, and hence tension the spring some more. I will investigate further (when she goes to work)

Its the spring just above the silver coloured lever in the foreground on this image.

Did they even have DMTL carba?
