Hi, has anyone tried the Torque app with associated bluetooth dongle on their TD5s ?

Torque — OBD2 Performance and Diagnostics for your Vehicle

Just seen a thread about it on another forum and was intruiged to know more.

Apparently you need to purchase a BT dongle that plugs into the diagnostics socket such as

Mini OBD2 ELM327 Bluetooth google Android Car Scanner Torque Auto Scan Tool | eBay

This then allows you to read all sorts of realtime data from the ECU of all post 2001 petrol and post 2004 diesels.

Looks intruiging.

I know that they do not work with pre 2004 but apparently OBD2 compliance for diesel's came in then. I was hoping that it would have been added to the ecu.

But then it may only have been for NEW engines developed afterwards

OK I have been scanning the tinternet where I have followed a few threads and have found this

Iain W:
I've just been talking to the technical people at Land Rover. They've confirmed that the interface to the Td5 ECU is via ISO9141, however the Defender is not classed as a car, and so does not need to be OBD2/EOBD compliant. Which explains why the ELMscan5 is unable to establish a connection to the ECU. Apparantly Defenders will be OBD2/EOBD compliant from 2007.

on the following forum thread 99MY TD5 Defender Diagnostic Socket Problem - Page 2 - Australian Land Rover Owners

So it looks like the TD5 Defenders never got the interface protocol, while D2's got some support.
