I brought this ( Land Rover Discovery TDi V8 Radiator Expansion Tank Cap on eBay (end time 23-Nov-10 21:50:34 GMT) )and took my genuine cap off my 4.0 p38 and now theres no preasure build up in my top hose and its same when its up to temperature and nothing trying to get out of the cap, still get a little steam from the exhausts but i can live with that. as you can see from the photo in the auction its nothing like the old cap used on p38 but fits and stops the preasure build up, the price of a p38 cap is seven time more expensive
makes me think my old cap was blocked but i was always told the blow off cap only did that if there was a fault in the system and not under normal running conditions @ 15psi or above then it would let the preasure out. i dont here any preasure escaping from the new cap and ive watched it up to normal running temperature and i can still press the top hose in very easy, Went for a drive round to next village and back parked up engine still running and the top hose was still as it was when i first tried it. temperature still normal too, its now running the same as my 2.8 td pajero the top hose is the same preasure in both now.
Wonder if i should go for the new p38 cap?
