halfords pro mmmmm lifetime guarantee and no quibble exchange, well yes that bits great.
the fact you end up returning a third of the poxy toolkit on several occasions is not so great.
their sales model is based not on quality but apathy of return !
most of thier stuff is really really good, but the poor bits are very poor!

JTF might be worth a look if have one local, I was in there the other day and they had various different tool cabinets. Costco in Birmingham had I think 2 of those cabinets two weeks ago.
I keep my sockets in the steel case they came in, torque wrench in it's case and I have a large (and damn heavy) plastic tool box for most other tools, had it for years and it's taken loads of abuse

Go mad, buy a Snap-On one....

I bought the Halfords cheapo (£50) red tool chest and draw set. I took the wheels off because my workshop is only 30m square and you are never far away
It's fine for hobbyist but not pro work.
I also have one from Machine Mart that is better quality. My plastic one is a Stanley thing that I have for around 5 years. It went to every trials riding event and has been kicked around the van. I am looking at getting another Halfords one to permanently fix in the back of the 90
Having your budget to spend on a tool box, the Halfords black pro series with roller bearing draws etc will give you a nice unit and change from £500!

Another vote for the Halfords gear. I didn't fancy it, but they were more than 50% off so I had a closer look. Work fine. No issues at all. Great kit.

They regularly come up at 50% off. Keep yer eyes peeled ;-)

I have the red uns.... They aren't cheap, I believe the Red were Professional and the Black are advanced... 8 years in they are as new.... from a quality perspective.

Costco are doing a slightly different style of box, but still very good quality. Just in time for Xmas

I bought a snap on one earlier this year with loads of snap On, mac etc stuff in it, sold the tools and ended up over £100 up and a free 7 drawer bottom cabinet. I did go on to sell the cabinet anyway to fund another mountain bike but if you keep your eye out with a bit of patience it can be done. I've done this three times now and amassed a few extra tools for nowt.
My own box is a 10 drawer, 2 cab sealey one I bought second hand from a local garage. If I'm working on the drive or visiting the scrap yard etc. then I've got an old mothercare changing bag which is perfect.

There's no doubt this is a mother of a box at £480 in store or £690 delivered from their web site, so why the vast difference then? The box is heavy, very heavy and whilst they don't give the un-loaded weight the box has a "capacity" of 1.12 tons! That's a lot of tools. It's a great design and with double ball bearing slides on the lower large drawer and rounded corners and cold formed panels should last a long time. Just wish I knew a friend with a Costco pass. Any takers near me : Wiltshire?

The online one is actually £590 and includes delivery, but that's £110 more compared to in store
Its about £37 for a years membership for Costco and worth every penny in my opinion.

Well, after all your assistance I eventually made a decision and went for the Halfords Advanced Tool Chest and cabinet bundle in at £476 in their Black Friday deal. Whilst the quality of the Costco Kirkland was without question, the difficulty in seeing/obtaining one and extra width of the units swayed me to the Halfords. I am just an amateur spanner basher and feel that the quality, value and three year guarantee is more than adequate for me.
Yes, you do need a ladder to get to the top!
