Right,

I have fitted my oil cooler and I have changed the oil.

When I turn the oil cooler on it sucks a load of oil around the cooler and pipes etc.

This pulls the oil level right down from Max to about Min.

When the engine is not running the oil drains back down to the sump and puts the level back up.

I have put some more oil in so that when the cooler is full, there is a healthy amount of oil left in the sump, just under max.

When starting off in the morning though, the oil level is right up over max as the oil is back down in the sump and not flowing around the cooler.

Will this cause me any problems, the high level of oil clears in about 30 seconds or so once engine is started and the cooler has had its feed.

Some will say it will blow your seals, I dont think it'll be much of an issue unless your racing the vehicle.
The pump sucks oil through a strainer at the bottom of the sump, the issue is the crank might be spinning through a sea of thick cold oil and possibly result in some getting burned in the chambers.
I'd fit an oil pressure guage and check the reading.
If your worried about it then fit a non return valve on the lowest pipe to the pump/cooler so that oil cannot run back to the engine, racing dry sump systems employ this or a solenoid valve connected to the ignition supply which performs the same function.

I have been driving the land rover all week now.

I have an oil pressure gauge and the reading is perfect.

As I say, the build up of oil in the sump clears in well under 30 seconds.

The extra ammount of oil comes up about 10mm from the Max mark on the dip stick so its not excessive.
