Today's stoopid newbie question

Because there are no bulb units in them - they are reflective units only. Probably USA legislation or Euro about height of tail lights.

Now the question is had anyone put these to work?
 
these are fog lights but i went to the local scrap yard and got two side and brake light holders along with there wire and wired them is so I now have 4 side lights on the back of the car but when you are supposed to use fog lights thats in Fog with 100yards or less visability or snow with 100 yards or less visability NOT RAIN as many do, they can when the switch is opperated you have your fogs lights on and this is all leagal and will pass an mot. you could have the brake light running through them but you would have to put a seperate fog light on and re route your wiring for this

clear lens are the reversing lights to try them put it into reverse and just turn your ignition on but do not start up unless some has there foot on the clutch

Yes, it was a dumb question, but it was a serious one, I'm a new owner and noticed only lower lights come on, even when braking. I thought they were normal lights and couldn't understand why they weren't lit.

I'm glad to see I received a warm welcome.

Yes car and bike test both passed and no points on license, thanks for asking.

Stick in there mate - the verbal us a kind of initiation! On the whole you will get good advice - you just have to cut through the other stuff which is often quite funny after a while. Oh yes a tip never rise to the bait - they will reel you in like a mackerel!

Hope you enjoy the vehicle - they can be troublesome but once certain things have been done they drive really well. Search the forum there is tons of useful stuff on it. Mostly helpful.

Oh yeh quite a few are into bikes as well including me.
 
Not such a stupid question - I have always though that the lights mounted in the lower bumper looked wrong. I belive they are mounted this way to meet "type approval regulations" to do with the visibility of lights when veiwed from an angle. The off-set mounting for the spare wheel means that the off-side light cluster is obscured, hence the need for mounting in the bumper.
Even Jap 4x4s have extra lights in the bumper, but not those that are grey imports over 10 years old and therefore not a candidate for a special vehicle type approval test. Honda CRV has its lights mounted high and the Suzuki Jimny has the spare centrally mounted to get round the problem.
I have though of changing the function of the wing mounted lights - changing them into brake, side and indicator lights and using the lower lights for fog and reversing (the lights have the later clear lens for the indicator). As long as the lighting meets MOT requirements there should be no problem as angle of visibility is not part of the MOT.
There, now I have bored everyone to death I think I will go and watch some paint dry.
