To buy or not to buy??

Hi everyone

I joined this forum because I'm thinking of buying a used Range Rover. I've admired them for a while so am deciding whether to take the plunge and get one.

Someone working for the AA told me not to bother unless I want to see him every couple of weeks, although I'm guessing his opinion is going to be somewhat biased.

What I want to know is if there's anything you wish you'd known before buying your Range Rover? Any tips or advice you could send my way?

what rr are you considering.

classic is most simple but suffers quite badly with rust

p38 can be an electronic nightmare

l322 starting to show gremlins with the older models now

Nowt wrong with a good P38, trick is finding a good one. It's been covered many times on here.

Don't buy one, i did and i regret the day i did. Listen to your aa friend, one day they will start rr anonymous!!!

like the members say, various opinions....

I've had nothing but problems with mine, originally head gasket related but shortcutting and cost cutting were to blame after. All fixed now, 3rd time lucky and I've only had it 2 weeks!!!!

Good ones do seem rare but then again we only ever see posts about problems on here so they are about.

Search for a buying guide. As suggested, been covered many times.

get a good un and you will never want to get rid had mine for 4 years and 40000 mile and has NEVER let me down. regular maintenace is the key.(am i going to reget this comment)

Don't get me wrong, mine is staying with me even though it is probably worth more than I've got in it and could make a profit.
For me, its about what it is, it looks good, sounds good but I don't particularly like the way they drive and find them slightly awkward to sit in and uncomfortable as a driver but as I said, I still like it enough to keep it.

you will get used to the way it drives and feels if you get it on the road for long enough and then it feels odd driving anything else. I hardley use my bmw anymore even though it has twice the power and speed and uses half the fuel

Running well you can`t beat them. Expect the unexpected, especially a few electrical gremlins on the P38, but there are enough tools and gadgets available at reasonable cost now to do most yourself, and of course the unbeatable knowledge base of the good guys on this forum to solve almost any problem that arises... Take the plunge and enjoy....

erm yes i wish i had more money,no but seriously,get the best you can for your money,do not go for the all singing all dancing models,i bought my p 38 with no cruise control,no heated seats no aircon,i just wanted the luxury,without the pampering,it is all down to personal taste and what you are going to do with it,make sure everything works,and the most important thing service history.
check the history,if it appears to spend more time in the garage,walk away,having extensive history on a vehicle like this is good to a point,but if you pick a bad one it will cost you plenty,there are loads out there,you do not need to buy the first one you see,take your time,and pick the best,and you will enjoy your purchase.
