Tired on Condensation on the front windscreen

As the mornings and evenings are getting damper and colder, has anyone managed to find a way to stop all the condensation on the front window.

Its taking about 5 minutes on full blowers to clear the condensation or we use a window blade.

Any help would be great.
 
Never tried this but a Pal said to drive the last few minutes home with the heaters off and the window open.

This equalises the temperature in the car and eliminates the condensation forming.

Try it and see?

Find the source of the dampness that is causing the condensation, damp carpets maybe, and fix the leaks. When the car is warm its drying the dampness leaving moisture laden air inside the car which is condensing on the cold glass at night.
I don't get any condensation since fixing my leaking tailgate.

have yu checked the cubby box in the floor at the rear - it is common for this to fill (at least partially) with water - that could be your water source for post #4
 
I've been getting the same condensation problem. He's garaged over night, but if I were to put him outside the condensation appears straight away.

When driving I put the temp in the vertical position, and the air vent set to out side and blowing out of the dash towards the seats. This gives you less condensation when you come back to it, when its left outside at work. No leaks for my. Carpet is dry.

Ted, I'm interested in your signature. Is it true? You could have a leak in your heater matrix making the interior damp! Also if you have aircon, put that on too as it dries out the air.
 
Is there a drain on the heater unit where inlet air rain water should go as on many other cars and if so is it blocked?

I picked up on another thread about the amount of air going on the screen: check your pollen filter is not blocked, mine was so I just cut it off and replaced the remainder as a blank cover, this has increased the amount of air going on the screen.

Lastly, can you have the air con on at the same time as the heater to clear the screen, I could on my old Disco but on the electronic maze of the freelander not sure.

I developed a problem with condensation, mostly on the left side of the windscreen when the air was cool or cold outside. Not much later found the heater matrix was leaking. After replacing the heater matrix (big job), no more condensation. :)
 
is yours an early gaylander?
some early ones had the sound deadening felt incorrectly fitted at the rear of the car (behind the plastic trim panels). it was blocking the air exit vents leading to poor air circulation and excessive condensation.
 
Turn off the recirculate-air button?

Seriously, my wife's pal always complained her car was steaming up, even when driving! The dozy bint always had the recirculate button engaged and no dry fresh air ever got in the cabin...
 
Hi all, can anyone help with a photo of where I should find the pollen filter in my 1999 freelander. I know it is under the fascia on the passenger (left) side, but no matter how hard I look I can't see anything that looks like the many photos I have seen of new filters.

I will explain a little about why this simple task seems difficult for me, as I am sure many will think the position is all too obvious. I had a couple of strokes a few years back and they left me with some brain damage which make it difficult to understand simple tasks. I used to write techncal training manuals, and now I can't understand the ones I wrote before the strokes. With that in mind I would really appreciate a photo or even a drawing.

ok will look at the matrix, although no obvious dampness or smell

If you haven't noticed a drop in coolant level then it's unlikely to be the heater matrix.
Also I forgot to mention remove interior light and look for signs of water ingress from roof aerial seal.

Sorry to hear about your strokes, hope you are doing allright now, all things taken into consideration that is. Have just taken a picture of my pollenfilter housing, (it's a continental left hand driven car and the picture shows the passenger footwell, guess the same but in mirror for the UK?).
The little white arrows show the place where the lid/filter is kept in the housing with 4 little Phillips screws. Good luck.

I've heard of another trick. The IRD and EGR cooling is in parallel with the heat matrix and robs the latter of warm water until everything gets hot. One idea is to re-pipe the heater matrix so that it is series with the IRD and then the EGR. That way the cabin gets full heat quickly. Not done it myself but I've heard the results are good.

My hippo had a leaking matrix also, windows would never clear. A bottle of rad weld fixed that, for now. Also the SRS controller got damp from the leak and occationally plays silly buggers.
