Tire height and paint codes

Hello all, at the risk of taking some abuse I'd like to ask some more rookie questions. I didn't get much of an answer when I posed them to my local LR dealership. I have tried the search thing but I don't quite get all the tire numbers and color descriptions and need some help with the basics......
First one "will a narrow 33.5 inch tire fit a 74 S-III shorty". I'm looking at TSL Super Swampers for the aggressive off road capability.
Second one "How do I figure out the paint code for my 74 S-III"? The original color is a light tan but I'm not sure what it is called officially. I don't seem to be able to get a paint code from the vin number and can't find a paint code in the engine compartment. any help appreciated.

unless you have the power to spin TSLs there is no point fitting them as they will fill with mud and become slicks they self clean by flinging the mud from the treads, you would be better off with simex extreme trekkers in the same size

ere u are mate, this should elp ya: none metallic colour. thinkin about paintin mine aswell soon, ave u ever heard of the stuff tremclad? apparently its proper tuff stuff and can take a beating, dont hurt ur wallet as much either.

Thanks for the help on this G-Man and The Don! I now have the color narrowed down to a possible 3 which is better than where I was at yesterday. As for the simex tires .... they look like smokin good tires. I am going to look into how tough it will be to get a set to Canada. Will a 33.5 tall Simex fit in the wheel wells of an S-III? I am trying to find the balance between axle clearance and engine power to turn them and binding on sharp turns. thanks again!

they will fit but you will loose a bit of turning circle, if you fit them on 8spoke steels the offset should allow you more angle, you won't be able to fit them on standard rims due to the width difference

The rims I have on are a newer variety of spare tire rims collected from the wreckers yard. I am not sure what version of Land Rover they come from but they have a more positive offset and appear to be wider. If a 2 1/4 gas engine has the power to turn them in low range in rough terrain and at highway speed in high range then they are the tire for me. As for Tremclad paint I love the stuff. I have used it on the farm for years for almost everything. It is a slower drying time paint so it is more challenging to get a smooth coat done but it ends up less brittle and easier to repair than acrylic enamel.

but just being able to turn them isn't enough you need to be able to spin them hard to remove the mud/crud or you will just end up with a big set of slicks

Hmmm, I am thinking that the only way to spin anything hard with my two and a quarter is if they are already slicks. How much tougher is it to turn a 3 1/2 inch taller tire in low range? I am hoping that the wide open lug will clean even if it isn't spinning very fast. Perhaps I should stick with the smaller tires and keep some chains handy...... pain in the arse though.....

Back to paint codes for a bit. I tried to get a match from the reference numbers that "The Don" posted but I can't seem to match them up to anything here. Does anyone know where to cross reference the LRC paint codes/names/numbers with PPG or Sherman Williams or something like that? I am pleased to have the color narrowed down to 3 but at this point I need to see them to try to get a color match. My local paint supply is willing to get a paint chip book out to try that but I want to be sure.... thanks a bunch!
