you read that correctly :)

just want to know if anyone has any tips on bleeding the brake system with drums on the rear. im stuff at the 1st hurdle in that i cant undo the bleed nipples (stewady ;)) on the drums! i also forgot to put the brake pads in the front right caliper :eek: and now have 3 pistons jammed against the disk! i didnt realise this till this morning after my half arsed attempt at bleeding the system last night.

anyway, any tips for my nipples? ;)

a good soaking in GT85 (better than WD40) overnight, then a well fitting spanner and lots of gentle taps with a small hammer.

personally, I'd splash out on a pair of new wheel cylinders though.
 
aw,

not more money and more stripping! i just replaced both front calipers, pads, retainers, brake pipe, onions, flexi hoses. cant be arsed with the same for the rears. i did put some gunk "liquid wrench" on it last night. lets hope it works.

Aye it's allus the fost thing me father in law sez when owts stuck "have you tried a bit of heat on it". He's very well spoken is me father in law. Anyoldhow new cylinders are as cheap a fook as are drums an shoes, I deffo wunt fook about with the cylinders.
 
course its flamable, which is one reason its good fer de-cokeing yer head, just bring yer revs reet up to about 2500rpm then pour a 1/2 down yer inlet manifold.. top tip ..do this away from built up area as it smokes a little.

but back to yer brakes a little heat will be enough to lossen yer nipples without causing any harm
 
lets ope so. prob give it a crack tonight. although its very wet down here in Bristol. lets hope it dries up in-time for me mate to weld the holes in the chassis :(

dude,

If i replace the cylinders wont the bleed nipple still be attached to the back of the drum? or is it attached to the wheel cylinder?

had a crack tonight armed with heat/liquidwrench, mole grips, screwdrivers, spanners and sockets... neither side would budge :( and ive started rounding the edges :( access to the flats is pretty limited.

any help?

no, the bleed nipple is attached to the cylinder and yer new cylinder will come with a nice shiny new one.
splash out some of the money yer saved on the welding!

But dude,

even if i get the cylinders out wont i still have to undo the onions on the solid brake pipe? cos i tried them tonight and they is well stiff. the pipe started twisting with the onion in place.

you may well end up having to replace the brake pipe back to the T piece in the middle of the axle too. it will only cost pennies and will avoid an MOT failure point next year.

what MOT next year? im hoping to get shot of it :D

yer, i know what you mean. ive replaced metres of pipe allready at the fronts. they have the pipe flair kits in trago for £5 and copper pipe for £8. should have bought a set when i was there last :( ive just been borrowing me mates and using all his pipe :D

err, won't that crush / damage the pipe?
he's talkin about the solid pipe, not the ferrule on the end of a flexi.
or am I the one who's confused?
