Tips how to change Air Springs P38 please

I've regretted many things since i bought my p38 but the only thing i've really had no regets about was when i bought a coil spring kit & threw away all my air spring problems.Worth a thought?
 
ooh all these coil spring enthusiasts....I see their point but air suspension ain't that difficult to understand and I like my vehicles original for at least their mechanic side..as well as going up and down to let wife out(!!?)

Rear air bags are easy. You don't even need to get wheels or arch liners off. (see my previous posts).

I would agree that air suspension isn't that hard to understand and after two and a half years of non-stop problems,i've become something of an expert. Also a whole lot poorer! The ride difference is minimal and off road it's just great. I would just add that one of the reasons i bought the p38 in the first place,was for the air suspension,but in the end it had to go!
 
Hi guys, I have just bought my P38 and seem to be having the same problems with leaking air susp bags and eas faults. Im about to try the link posted by V8Kenny. Hope all goes. How did you get on with yours Disc300?
 
Did it a few weeks ago. It's not difficult, except that one of the fronts had glued itself in place, but after thirteen years, that's understandable. Solved it by sticking a woodscrew through the plastic endcap to "jack" it away from the metal.

Very glad I did it - ride nicer ever since. Also, air springs weigh very little, so why stick yet more heavy metal onto an already portly beast.

Others have already pointed you at the best on-line help.
 
just changed my rear spings to day easy to do, just needed jacks, stands, pliers and screw driver only 1 hour to do, will never go to coil springs
 
Just came in from trying to replace my rear springs.
Jacked up the chassis to a position above high, pressed the collet with a screw driver and removed the air line with pliers. Used a metallic hanger to remove the "R" pin from the top of the spring. Removed the bottom pin with pliers. Removed the bottom of the spring from its position. The guide in RR.net says that at this point the spring should drop out. But it looks like it is stuck! I'm afraid that if I force it too much I'll end breaking something and will be left with a stranded Rangie.
Any thoughts on how to force the spring out ? I'm working on the driveway, on my back :(
 
If you've only jacked the chassis up and haven't got another jack under the half shaft or somewhere then they should just fall out. However the book wasn't written thinking of us poor slobs still trying to keep these cars going well over a decade later. Funny things do happen but if you're convinced that you've got the pins out complete then it's a bit of brute force.

However, before you do, I hope you're not trusting your life just to one jack. As long as you've got axle stands or heavy wooden blocks or something similar under there then go for it. Pry bar, hammer, hammer and chisel, all the standard Land Rover tools, whatever takes your fancy.
