Working on the disco today and seen a lot of oil is coming out of the timing case wading plug hole..but...

150 miles ago it had a new timing belt and the crank seal was done.. I'm taking the engine out to sort the knackard clutch fork, so can get good access to the timing housing.,

my knowledge of engines and cars in general ain't great ATM but I'm learning :) with the thanks to all you LZerz and the trusty Haynes manual.

When I think of oil coming out of the timing case I automatically assume it's the crank seal, but I ain't no expert, it's only cus of what I've read when searching on this forum. But surely a new one wouldn't leak? The garage said the nut on It had seized and was a bastid to get off?

So any ideas on what could cause this leak? Unless the garage didn't put the seal on properly or something?

Thank you all :)

I'd guess at it will be new crank seal leaking and your gona be replacing the cambelt kit again as it will be damaged through oil contact.

i would put a bet on the crank seal, incorrectly seated, i wouldn't have changed it in the first place unless it was leaking seals are a thing best left alone unless its leaking and must be repaired or you are changing both faces as often in the case of crank seals the crank will actually get a wear mark in it this can often cause problems for the new seal trying to bed in on older engines like a 2 1/4 diesel its better to just knock a old seal in straight on top of the leaking old seal this allows the new seal a fresh place on the crank
