After finding soft back on e bay for good price, for abit of fun for kids for summer.my water pump decided to pack up and **** the coolant all over the floor i had just put in after a flush out of system, and car is now sat on drive going nowhere.during this short spell of sunshine(if last year is anything to go by only bit of sunshine). so whilst replacing pump thought just as well change timing belt even though doesnt need it. but have noticed some are for manual tensioner and some for auto tensioner, and as this engine is used in other models are all freelanders manual or auto or are some different depending on age etc mine is a 2001 series 2 1.8 k series.

the tensioner is under inlet cam pulley, if it is auto there is a metal rod to the right round a bolt and a m shaped piece of metal normally between 4 and 6pm.

buy a cam locking tool as well.

Actually I'm wrong there after doing a bit of reading. Very early freelanders had manual tensioners, then the later ones (don't know if it's after 1999 or 2000) have auto tensioners.

2001 will definitely have an auto tensioner. My 2000 has an auto tensioner.
