I bought and fitted a TIM 52mm temp gauge, I wanted to know more accurately what my engine was up to.

So, fitting was a doddle, just changed the terminals round from the original gauge and then the existing wiring just plugged in, swapped the sender which came with the kit, job done.

Turned on the ignition and it shoots up to about 50°C, which didn't seem right (engine was only on for about 10 minutes and it had been off for over 40mins by now) started driving and it was soon 80°C, then 100°C, then 110°C then off the scale after 120°C!

Something not right, I checked the temperature of the coolant with a thermometer and it was about 70°C. So does anyone have any experience of these kits?

I checked it all over over again today, I can say for certain that all the wiring is 100% perfect.

I put my old sender in, which was a 300tdi Defender sender (black I think) and it is reading about 100°C at operating temperature with that one, so I am going to leave it in just now because thats when my engine is sitting about 85°C and if it goes higher than 100°C, I know it's not right.

I will contact the company I bought it from and ask them, hopefully they will send me another sender. Damn!

I also discovered today that my bottom speedo light has been out probably since I owned the vehicle, I just assumed it only had one at the top and wasn't great at illuminating the gauge, I put a new 2.2W wedge bulb one in and it's much better now.
