Take a good look at the brass pushrod seat in the block for the slightest bit of damage. Pushrods usually bend though not snap

I had this on our old 200Tdi....turned out the crank pulley wasn't done properly by the PO and caused the sprocket to chatter and knock the crank to cam timing out and valves met piston snapping No8 push rod.....

I'd pull the front cover off and have a look inside....

Our recent acquisition (the '88 110) has just had the timing belt done and the same thing had happened to that too.....

Yeah I'll check them out,
this is the broken push rod, it's perfectly straight. Very strange indeed .

Exactly the same as our old 200Tdi.... I'd defo check your crank to cam timing.

Cheers, I'm going to do that, I found 2 slightly bent push rods too so somthing isn't right, The timing belt was done about 5k ago but it's not going to hurt to do it again.
