Thumping noise on rebound

When i drive over a sleeping policeman or over potholes i have a thumping noise coming from the rear axle/dampers. It only occurs on rebound. Any ideas what it could be??? Front axle/damper are fine. I just find it irritating and want to sort it out.

Its probably the policeman or potholer you've just woken up :D

Mine was the exhaust banging on the A frame as the rubber mounts had perished. Fitted new rubbers and no more banging.
