Does any body have any method of adjustment either by linkage or pump so that i can cut back the top end revs a little for the dreaded MOT smoke test, i am not talking loads just a few hundred rpm, the test station have to test it as presented so providing it is not ridiculously obvious at the very least it will ease my nerves, and yes i know all that blah blah about if its a healthy engine it wont hurt it, thats boll+++s, it is a healthy engine and i want it to stay that way, there is no way on gods green earth that any of us would rev and scream the nuts of our engines out of choice or for fun, let alone some garage looking for work doing it,:lvkiss-106:

I feel the same way about the smoke test, it's a bloody stupid test thought up by idiots.:doh:
Best thing you can do is a couple of tins of fuel conditioner in about a 1/4 tank of fuel, do fifty or so miles and then on the day of the test rev it hard in third and fourth on the way to the MOT station, it should pass on the first "free acceleration" as it's called.
Good luck.

fuel conditioner is an expensive waste if all you want to do is to help it pass the smoke test - pouring 10L per full tank of SVO in and getting the engine hot before the test is much more effective

Choose an MOT station that doesn't do repairs. I've worked in one.
As long as you've changed your oil and filters should be no prob.
The third and fourth run is a good call, but if recently serviced and you arrive for MOT with the engine up to normal temp you should have no prob.
A seviced 6 year old engine should have no prob and fly through on the free acceleration bit.
Test is stupid though. I can only think that it's aimed at diesel cars that are hammered up and down motorways.

If the Belt is in good condition and not too old it wont be a problem.
I dont know why people worry about free reving an engine i have no problems with it after all this is built into the design of the engines.
But warm up the engine on the way to the mot and give it a good blast out and it should be fine just dont let the engine get cold before the MOT if you book in for say 11 oclock get there for 10.50.

If the engine is healthy and up to temp you have noting to worry about,it is a stupid test but its law, just put it out of your mind.
If you have ever deliberately tried to blow up an engine you would realise how strong they are - you should try it,feeding extra oxy/propane makes them rev even harder.Even after they have siezed and stopped you can usually get them to run again by pushing them with the tractor.

Not quite answering your question but if you're worried about smoke a tank of bio-diesel will make it run cleaner. Some London taxi drivers swear by it for their smoke test. BP Ultimate may have a similar effect.

Try your local council for there mot centre they usually have 1 that does mots to the public at good rates. They will give a fair test.

Ah ha got it through ok passed, made a little stop for the pedal and it maxed out at 4300 on the smoke test? not sure if i actually achieved anything though, although it didnt sound to bad when he revved it, and only twice,
does anybody know what a TD5 normally revs to on the smoke test, or what the max rpm is for an 03 TD5?
