Three Amigoes ( sorry I know this has been done to death)

I am hoping someone can help me. I bought a poxy freelander about 12 months back and have used this place for an awful lot in that time! (should have given me the hint really...!)

Firstly, I am very sorry, I know there are a lot of messages about this, but almost so many I got lost!

Secondly, sorry if this is a bit of a ramble...

I have had the three dash lights for the best part of a year now, never really bothered me, bought the car like that and all was good. Until the Test was due.

They were intermittent, they usually came on every trip, but a simple off and on of the engine could get rid of them for varying amounts of time so I booked for the MOT and decided to brass it. This failed. in Fact the vehicle failed - badly, but not to worry about that, nearly there (emissions, brakes, Tyre, etc, 11 in total, only two left to fix)

The two that are left are the failures for the ABS & TC lights on. After the car failed the test, the first thing i did was look at this, cleaned around the sensor (it has been plugged in, the near side rear is the one causing the issue according to the garage diagnostics), hit it with a hammer for a while and there you go - all gone for about two weeks.

The car also failed on the handbrake, so this morning i adjusted the brake (which is now good) - but this caused these bloody lights to come back on!

I am really confused as to how adjusting the hand brake may have made the lights come back on and even more confused now about what the issue is. All sensors have been tested and give good reading, not the model with the break switch issues and all other related components have been tested as good.

As playing with the sensor that gave the original false reading gave me a break from them for a while - I am thinking its got to be this sensor, but i'm really out of idea's as to what and why adjusting the handbrake ruined all my hammer work, which i usually take as a perfect solution to fix, well, anything!

I'd like to get rid of the bloody thing truth be told, but I've already invested too much in fixing the other issues under the pretext that this one was gone!

Now totally out of test and basically back to square one - no idea's what to do next!

Again, I truly am sorry, I dare say this probably has been covered, I just cant find it...

Hi I had the same problem with mine replaced the brake light switch no joy. Made sure the hill decent wires were still in plaice on gear stick is they had broken off fixed that no joy then checked the ohm's on each abs sensor 1000ohm ok so not the sensors in the end got second hand abs pump from scrapers £22from gentlemen of salvage in Devon fitted it and bled the system then taken for diagnostic it was the shuttle valve switch. Cleared and it hasn't come back yet . Hope this helps

Had a friend with this, was the brake light switch on the peddle. Check the wiring behind the bumper lights for corrosion as well, had to re wire his.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. I don't think it's the brake switch, quite sure it's the wrong model for that (two wire) - but couldn't hurt to check all wiring back and swap out the pump.

The HDC ha been required by the previous owner and this was advised by the garage as probably the issue (hinting at an electrical fault) but I've had the interior to bits and all looks good there, so back to changing whatever I can pull out on the ABS system now!

you should list the year Freelander and what engine you have as it can help towards diagnostics

as the throttle cable on a petrol can cause 3 amigos but cant on a diesel
you need to check you ABS sensors for resistance they should be between 950-1100 then once they have being tested test them again at the Wabco ECU in the drivers seat to make sure the readings are the same
