hi,

i have been offered a land rover 109" one ton, it has the 2.6 petrol, low ratio box with hydraulic pump. good chassis, good bulkhead, good body.

It is open for offers, i've been looking for a 0ne ton 109" or a foward control for towing and heavy work. i don't really know what to offer, how rare are they, do they sell for a lot of money when they come up?

Any comments or suggestions i would be grateful to hear from you.

Have a look at this site - www.onetonlandrover.co.uk

They are great motors, but VERY slow and you can't fit an overdrive. Tyres are getting hard to come by. There are only about 30 or so left on the road so its probably best not to do something you can't undo should you decide to resore it one day. They are very thirsty, and the 2.6 engine likes to drink oil as well as petrol. They do tow extremely well, but ride better with a trailer on the back or when laden - the unladen ride is very harsh. Most parts are still about for those that match the normal landrovers, but the axle parts are rare, not sure aout gearboxes either. They don't really sell for much more than a standard 2.6 model, but you could probably add a couple of hundred on top of that, depends how quickly they want rid of it...
If you do buy it and its a genuine one ton I would love to know some details to add it to the register.

Cheers,
Dan.

i only ever drove one 6cyl landy and it was crap even compared to the 2.25. but like i say it was only the one so thats maybe not a good comparision.

It must have been a duff one, the 2.6 is more powerful and has more torque than a 2.25, and revs higher too.

thats what i would have thought but the owner assured me it had just been serviced by LR. it really wouldn't have pulled you out of bed. it didn't misfire nor was hesitstant it was just guttless....after all these years i've finally heard someone tell me what they should be like.

Hmmm< i can't expalin that, but sometimes the throttle linkages get worn and don't open the throttle fully anymore...
