I have a 4.6 V8, 1995 Range Rover. Been thinking about getting it LPG'ed for a while now, but also wondering would it be worth it or should I just go for a new car, something that is cheap to run standard. I don't NEED a Range Rover, I just LOVE owning one and I'd rather not give it up.

So I've done my research on quotes to get it converted and things like that, and I've "worked out" figures of how much I would be spending on fuel etc..

But what I want is real facts. Let's say a gallon is 5 pound, cause it's not far off, how many miles where you getting on petrol? Now you have converted to LPG how many are you seeing for £5? Is their really that big a difference?

Would appreciate any comments. I'm sure you too would be interested just to see what you are actually getting.

in my 3.5 rrc and working it out to miles per £5, with lpg here at 62.9p per litre I'm getting 24.6 miles per £5, sounds a lot better than what I get mpg:D.
 
See that doesn't sound too great, I average about 14mpg on petrol... Fair enough it's a canny bit more but for the price of an LPG conversion I was expecting to achieve at least 30 miles to a fiber minimum.

That to me is disappointing :Cry:

rewmer - by "15 mpg" do you mean, 15 miles to a fiver, or literally 15 miles to a gallon of LPG?
 
that isn't too good I know but that is driving around here, short runs, lots of single lane roads so starting & stopping all the time, on a run I get more like 32\33 miles to £5 I just don't get to do that very often living in rural norfolk.
 
sell the one u got n put the money towards buying one thats already converted. i ran mine for about the same price as running a 2.0 mondeo !!!
 
My 4.4 was already converted when I bought it. Sequential LPG conversions start at around £1500.

I think I have worked this out correctly :- assuming MPG on petrol is 17 and 15 on LPG (you get slightly less on LPG) and assuming petrol is £5.36 per gallon (£1.18 per litre) and LPG is £2.90 per gallon (£0.64 per litre), I reckon you would have to drive 12,500 miles on LPG to get your £1500 investment back.

After that, your fuel costs should reduce by around 40% being equivalent of about 27mpg on petrol.

Sorry if this sounds like the answer to a maths GCSE question!

I get around 200 miles from a full tank, which is around £43, thats just when i use it for work, 10 miles each way, 6 of these on A roads and 4 miles on m/way. So not too bad, costing me much less than my previous m3, and around similar to the 2.0 turbo celica gt4 i have, Sam
 
not worth it...

lpg is good,mine converted..did myself with second hand system (sequential on a toyota 4l v8 in my rangie)

performance and mpg on petrol is better..so for cruising i use gas,come flooring it i use petrol..

reason i say not worth it is UNLESS you keeping the vehicle for ages and really love her then its much cheaper to sell her and buy one already done..

once done you basically get the same mileage but for about 5/8 of the cost of petrol..this assumes you can get gas near you and you dont go out your way to get it(say burning 30 extra miles of fuel just to refill...)
 
I converted my 4.6 5 yrs ago and get from the computer average 15.7 mpg over 2300miles at 64p per litre so have saved all the cost of installation many times over
 
Converted my P38 myself £890.00 plus inspection and tune by LPG Cert installer who said it was as good a professional install as he had seen. Gob smacked when told him it was a self fit. Returns 220mls to 75lts local traffic, 260 on long runs. Best landy I have ever owned.
 
I bought mine converted. It does though have awful fuel consumption of around about 13mph. Doing the conversion for cost that gives me an equivalent of around 21 mpg which I suspect is as good as it gets until I spend £4,000 on a Turner engine replacement that gives 20mpg on petrol and should therefore give me 34mpg equivalence !! I will believe it when I see it.....

Unless you find a good second hand kit and are competant with the spanners, you will never recoup the cost, esp as LPG seems to be rising quicker than fuel.

Feedback on figures - I can get 15 - 16 on lpg, 16 - 18 on petrol. I have achived 18 on lpg and 22 on petrol but if I had to drive like that all the time I would rather walk!
 
sell car,buy one already done..then its worth it...(also takes the risk out of gov hicking up lpg tax,thus removing any chance of recouping your outlay of a pro fitted kit on your car..)

or diy...(you can get it checked after..fully legal to diy)
 
:welcome2:hi , i have a 2000 model v8 vogue runs like a dream . has the thor engine . the lpg system was installed 18 mths ago . i have had the rr 3 months now . i get approx 15/ 17 mpg on gas . the gas costs me 53p per litre and after 500 litres i get 25 ltrs free yes FREE all the other gas places and supermarkets sell **** gas and top prices so anyone reading this and lives in m/cr area pm me and willgive you the gas retailers address also i got the lpg system serviced recently by the garage that fitted it originally and they are brilliant to deal with and only charged £60.00 for full service including new filters and trimming .. a very happy rangie owner manchestermozz :D:):):)

Who has a Sequential Injection System here ?

What's your gas consumption ? by calcul, not with the trip computer?

I'm asking since i'm converting my single point system to sequential injection.

I do 12mpg or 23l/100km with my single point system on a 4.6 P38

Just got back from a 3 day trip from Sussex to mid Wales in my 2002 4.0HSE auto . Mix of motorway at 75-80mph, sensible driving on A-roads and about 10 miles in low range, the computer shows 19.3mpg. The computer seems pretty accurate compared to bills. Best so far was a trip to Millbrook in the early morning M25 rush, with few opportunities to exceed 65mph, when it showed 24.4mpg. Needless to say I'm pleased when I compare it to my previous Disco TS5 auto which consistantly returned 23mpg! Crap Pirelli Scorpions have to go, though, after failing to climb a slight bank on wet grass.
