Those pesky small black fuel lines!

What ya Disco divas, I have a question....
You know those small black fuels lines/pipes that push fit at the top of the engine? Not the main pipes. The one that returns(?) fuel from the injectors to the fuel pump for instance...Is there a secret way to getting them to push home?
Mine broke, fuel everywhere I trimmed the line as the break was close to the end of the pipe but pushing it home seems impossible!!
Any thoughts? Oh it's a 200tdi by the way.

heat it up with a lighter and then push it on. i use pliers to push them on.

I dip them in a cup of hot water to soften them up and then they cool and seal when fitted

Tried the hot water method and the plastic was so brittle that it snapped again so gave and bought some 4mm rubber line and two clamps and that seems to have done the trick!
