Yesterday, I took the Hippo back to the Local Garage i bought it from (Independant 4x4 Specialist)and asked him to check the VCU, Cos It wont drive the rear wheels, So he put it up on the lift, Waggled the props, Spun the rear wheel(no resistance felt),Rubbed his chin a few times, Dissapeared to phone Landrover, came back 15min later drove it round in circles,
Then came the much awaited diagnosis!!! Yep!
"dunno Mate yu'll av to teck it t Landrover so they can test it" .
FFS, No Sh*t sherlock!!!!

Well the Hippo's booked in to the Dealers next Tuesday! £70.00:eek:
Firstly, to find out why it only wants to play in 2WD, (a problem they've never heard of apparently) can only be the vcu or Ird????
Secondly, while its there, Hopefully to get to the bottom of the smoking problem?;)
Like My Hero LRGUY said, ger it on Testbook and see if they can diagnose the problem.
So this time next week, courtecy of the warranty,it should be "No smoke" and a "real landrover":p 4Wd
And Mondo will be a Happy little bunny again??:D
Let yer know how it goes so you can all laugh:p

Should have brought that lovely V6 Freelander mate. Didn't smoke, run in 4x4 mode all the time and went like stink. S U C K E R ! ! !

On a serious note, let's hope it's a simple and cheap fault to put right.

Good luck Mondo Hippo

Dont think "simple" and "cheap" applies to Hippos, But the waranty should take care of it:eek: ???? Just don't know wether to trust the div at the place i bought it to do the work, Hes supposed to have done the IRD and VCU for the previous owner:rolleyes:

Don't you trust car dealers/garages Mondo?
I wonder why?
Surely if he done the IRD and VCU for the previous owner it will have some type of warranty with it?

Be carefull with your aftermarket warranty, you said you bought it from a specialist dealers, most of these type of warranties only cover the 1st £1000 of any claim and before you ask you cant claim twice for related items, they will do anything to avoid paying high repair bills.

If the IRD is duff expect it to top this without some much as a blink.

A lot of Subaru drivers that i know have had a warranty in place or so they thought, subsequently blew a piston and sighed relief when the £2500 repair bill was as they thought covered, ohh no, having then read the small Print they discovered the £1000 dis-claimer.

Zippy

Cheers Zippy!
Feel loads Cheerier now!
I already knew that theres a £1K Max on the Waranty, But as i've only had it a few months, Should be able to throw the old Trades descripions act Sect 28 at em, Seein as they sold it with these repairs already done for the previous owner.
If Not I'll be standing outside there forecourt with a big sandwich board round me neck, And if That dunt work the rest of there stock will be meeting my big hammer
See you on news at 10

I suffered the £1000 claim limit when the head gakset blew. I avoid warrantys when I can now. Put the money I would have spent in a savings account and use it when/if I need it.
Warrantys are truly worth crap now days :(

A real landrover! Im sorry are you talking about a Freelander???

Hi,

And in width it is also the same (or better), when I for the first time went to an independent LR specialist he wondered whether he had to bring the layers of his lifting bridge closer together as they were set on Disco and Defender widths, imagin his surprise when I drove it on and it was as wide if not wider.:D :D

Quick update!
Mr landrover took my £70 and had a play for an hour
Diagnosis: Not sure, but they would start by swopping the VCU, as the mountings are shot anyway, there seems to be excessive Slap in the IRD when wobbling the drive shaft, but he says this could be down to the VCU ?
as a new one will take up any backlash
As for the Smoking bit, No fault code at all showing,
But latest tech bulleting fron LR now recomends that the crank breather filter
Should be replaced at every 24k miles instead of the 82K as previous
I just clened mine wi deisel while i had it out, Dosent work says mr. landrover
stick a new one in and replace intercooler hoses should sort the problem.
He did ask me if i knew that it had bin chipped??? Oh Sh*t! Forgot to take Rons box off. Not to worry
So off to the garage i bought it to see what they are going to do (where's me hammer)

Everone board yet??

Forgetting to remove the Rover Ron chip may not have been a smart move. Not to worry though, I'm sure they don't give a monkeys to be honest.

Hello! Come Back to this thread later, Im board of it aswell

No! they didnt seem bothered, anyhow Its out of LR warranty. they took me £70.(which is going on the Warranty claim) So Stuff em,:p

Update No2 (If you havent already pressed the Ignore button);)

Called into the garage where i bought the hippo, Said to "head technican",Give this chap at the dealers a ring and he'll tell you what he "diagnosed".Which was basically "Err Not sure, But it could be the VCU, Thats where we would start" Oh Good O!,
So five minutes later he comes back and says " Yep, I remember now!
We did the VCU and the IRD for the previous owner, A local gearbox refurbisher did it for us under Warranty" Ill give em a ring!;)
Comes back after ten minutes,"Sorted! he says, With a big grin on his face and thinking "Back heeled this one!":D
Can you take it down to them next Tuesday!, So they can diagnose it?!
( HHMMmmm! "Why heve i just spent seventy ferkin quid, plus diesel plus, the morning off, To take it to LR, for them to tell you, yer ferkin JOB"?
Anyway! I'll let you know how it goes,
Unless yer tell me otherwise!;)

God this Grass is nice! and its only ten past six!:D
