whats the thoughts on this, and a rough value of it ?

all the spec stuff is a bit beyond me but wondered the thoughts on it with all that and the zinc coated chassis ? (is that good ? is that same/like galvanised ?)

just posting as its very local and just wondered thoughts on it, would wheels like that be too big for a ot of road use and its more set up for off road or does it all look and sound good and a lick of paint would finish it off niceley ?

thanks

well i didn't know that.. my mate sold a B reg modified to a guy from the Netherlands an he got 5k for his so is it only the yanks that don't allow this ???

Yep they is very anally retentive when it comes to trying to get a non US made vehicle into the US BAsically unless it is at least 25 years old it has to meet all the emmission, safety, anti theft stds that apply to a brand new car..

so does that look/sound like a good one then ?

zinc coated chassis good ? them door things good ? wheels and all the bits etc ?

as i want it for a winter daily driver type machine, is that sort of set up be ok or more off road based ? would it be ok/good on fuel or any more juicy ?

any more thougths on price ? he has put a price to me hel take, so i wnated to see what thoughts on value were how it compared

also importantly....if i went to see it, what sort of things would i be checking and looking for ? as ive only looked at standard type defenders so far nothing like this

Dont confuse a zinc coated chassis with a galvanised one. Any muppet can slap a bit of silver paint on the chassis to make it temporarily look useful.

ahh is zinc coated just painted then ? ie it could just be a painted on visible parts underneath? and not a bare chassis coated job

which to be honest that was a draw if it was like a galvanised one, as im not overly keen on the color of it and dont particularly need the off road extras and guards etc as its more a road goer

doesnt look bad but then it will come down to price at the end of the day.

ask more about the zinc coating. If it has been stripped back to bare metal it will last a lot longer than something that has just been slapped on top of old underseal. If it is that good you could always ask the seller to send you pics of the chassis to get a quick idea of the condition.

Guessing the other one you went to see was no good then Polsta?

Yea they don't like good cars in the states. Worried if the defender was brought over here it would kill Jeep. I went through importing one last year, not that hard if you do it right. The car has to be 90% original, and the customs guys will get you if you try and bring one all loaded up for off-roading.

Did you look at bringing 1 down from Canada, might be easier:D

There are alot of NATO left hand drive that go to Canada. And then you can do your mods for off roading

They didn't like the Defender for the same reason they didn't like the Suzuki Samurai. They weren't considered safe by the nanny state. The Zuk rolled over too easily and the Defender could not be fitted with the proper air bags.

It says in the advert hes had a new galved cross member fitted so i would say hes painted the rest of the chassis to match.
If you are old enough classic car insurance will be cheap.

Yes the air bag issue stopped Land rover from exporting the new defender's to the USA. But does not stop people from importing used defenders into the USA as long as they meet the safety requirement for the year they are made.
Would be cheaper to get a used one from Canada than try to import yourself.
As loads go to Canada under the same rules and they like there defenders in Canada.:D As I have checked this out,
and have seen several defenders here in Michigan with Canada plates, we are only 1/4 mile from Canada:D:D:D

PS they have to be 25 yrs old or older
