The other side of sanity!!!
I've thought for a while about asking, but cannot come up with a better way. I do not know any mechanics and my knowledge of this area is minimal, I would like to upgrade some bits on my landy along with gaining a bit more understanding and then probably some more.

The only problem is I don't have a clue where to start or what to do. So I am asking one, or some, or any of you in my local area, that has any spare time on their hands to help me along and show me some basics if you could.

Obviously I don't expect a free ticket and other than going on courses, which I just don't have time for, I can't really think of another option. So any ideas or offers let me know.

Screwey, I'm no mechanic But iva had my 90 to pieces gearboxes engines axles you name it I'd be happy to help Jai

Actually My mota was built from parts thats why its never finnished, Lol, Anything you want just shout now we have our own pad i have a driveway to do bits in its no Probs Luton/Duns boarder Birds estate, Jai

Well everything really. I want to check everything that I already have is in order I got so many questions it's doing my brain in. I want to upgrade bits and pieces in the engine and get the electrics sorted, (I'm supposed to be an electrician) what's worth having done and what's not and so on.

buy a haynes and take it as it comes. I knew nothing when i bought my 1st landy 3 years ago, now i know atleast a little bit more! start with simple servicing and when something breaks, fix it yourself! you soon learn and if you bought a ringer, you learn fast! the combination of the forum and haynes is a good balanced one, and you cannot go far wrong.

Good luck

No worries get some ideas, start with the maintainance side,

Grease everything,
Props,
Ball Joints,

Check your oil levels,
Engine,
Gearbox,
Tranny box,
Diffs,
PAS,
Swivels,

Check for play,

Wheel bearings,
ball joints,
Propshafts,
Steering once you are happy with these then go on to other you wish to Add,

Adjusting,
Brakes,
etc,
Knowing and having the tools on board to change a wheel bearing at the side of the road could be one less RAC or AA rescue home Jai

I'm thrown by it all as I have a 96 TDi engine. I cheated as I got it serviced a couple of months ago as my PAS pump was knackered. But I've decided I should know how to do this myself. I have no tools either, well my screwdrivers and basic stuff but my socket set got robbed not too long ago and haven't bought a replacement. So you may as well say I'm a complete virgin when it comes to this.
