Thinking of buying a Range Rover

The seller has got back in touch & says it is not the dimmer switch the dash is just completely blank ?
He reckons it is "just damp"
He says it starts & runs fine on both petrol & lpg & other than the blank dash the only thing he knows is wrong with it is one of the back exhaust boxes is broke ?
He is willing to take less money for it so what do you good people think a "Range Rover HSE 4.6. Auto. LPG. 1994. Range Rover hse. In black. Grey leather. 140k. LPG conversion. Air suspension works fine. Been off the road for 2 years" ?

Is it just light effects or do the front seat look a different colour.

Anyway. A wet car hides faded paintwork:D, no headlight wipers? (Not sure when they started fitting) it is an early one though.

if it is “damp” inside you may fall foul of quiet a few more problems, nothing that’s not fixable with help and money.
and of course with no dash at all you won’t know what else is actually hiding in there fault wise.

personally it would need to be a lot below what he was originally asking for and it maybe worth a punt, if you don’t mind the frustration that goes with trying to get it sorted.

for a little more money you could get a fully operating car, so I would tread carefully. Because they can and do empty the wallet very quickly.

But it’s your money, your choice:)

good luck please don’t go on just my opinion, others may think differently.

How much is he asking? I think @martyuk might have mentioned a dash being dark before and the fix?

He was asking £1,000 but has now said he will take £700.
I still think that that is to much as you have no idea what faults there are without the dash display working.
When he says it drives fine I think it has only been driven around his yard.

140k miles is a fair amount. Have the head gaskets been done? When were airbags last replaced? Balljoints and radius arm bushes done? It is a risk to be sure having been sat for 2 years. The sensible part of me says walk away but the gambler is tempted.

It’s an early one, I wouldn’t say 94.

upgraded to later type clear lights, looks like it has missing headlight wipers rather than the blanks. I bet they don’t work
Likely someone at sometime had a butchers at the becm and it’s stood since.
If it runs a dream may be worth a punt, not sure I’d pay £700 for it. for potential price to fix it would be worth a ready to go one

If I knew 100% I could fix it myself for nothing yes, or I’d walk away and wait for the next bus.

The P38 went into production in August to September 1994.

That is a very early example..

I'd be tempted as a Restoration project, but not a tow cow..

Will take a fair chunk of Moolah to put right IMO..

If i had the cash i'd jump on it..

These "94 P38 are the equiv of the suffix A Classics :)

Stick a VOGUE badge on the back and different plates and, that is almost identical to my old (written off) one,
I want another one now!

Agreed although not sure the '94 will command as much as a '98 GEMS with all the niggles ironed out!

Must admit, as a bit of a project I am tempted, knowing it will need some work and not relying on it as a daily driver. At the same time I haven't got time but for £500 I think I'd go for it.

Seldom see the 94's

;)

£500...sucks air through teeth...

That one in Swansea is better than that. A LZ one too. Early ones do tend to be bit cleaner underneath than newer though in my experience.
Prices seem to be holding since I last looked. Even diesels are bit more

Good 4x4's not the glam mobiles of the modern ones ;)

Very appealing ;) prices have solidified ;)

£500 gamble worked for me, but I’m crazy, about my P38. I was only one used it for years so I’d already put it through its paces ;) I couldn’t have done it without LandyZone
Aesthetics is big price factor, and gizmos. I don’t mind the battle scars and no Bluetooth or leather on mine. The heated seats don’t work although they are there, left window won’t stay set, AC works but only just

Nothing that really matters you just need it to run properly and enjoy it :)
