I'm after a 110 station wagon with a 200 or 300TDI engine and am looking at spending no more than £6k.
Has anyone got any tips of what I can expect for that sort of money or other buyers' tips?

I'm hoping to run it on vegetable oil using the SmartVeg system (Smartveg UK - advanced diesel to veg oil car conversion system for those who haven't seen it - well worth a look). Has anyone else done this?

Also, I've seen a few camo or white 110s for sale, but they're not colours I like. How much woudl it be to have it resprayed properly and how good a result can you get doing it yourself?

Many thanks in advance,

Simon

Personally I like cammo Landys but then again, I used to travel in them a lot so its kinda nostalgic :)
But in answer to your other question..if you went out to halfords or somewhere similar, and bought a couple of spray cans of car paint, some masking tape, and some go fast stripes, Then sprayed the Landy with them in a mates garage....it would probably look like you had ..gone out to halfords or somewhere similar, bought a couple of spray cans of car paint, masking tape and go faster stripes, and sprayed it yourself in a mates garage ! :)

ditto above, dont do it yourself, it will look ****. i think you will be looking at around £1000 for a decent job. best thing you could do is hold onto your $$$ and wait for the right one to come along. the original factory paint will also be tougher, great on scratchy greenlanes!

£6 will get you a very nice 200tdi and a reasonable 300tdi.

as for tips, do plenty of reading before you part with your $$$ ;)

Is it possible to pay 3-5K for a 110 station wagon and get a decent motor that won't give you immediate grief? Or is the 3-5K price range more of a 'project' vehicle?

Check out Brightwells of Hereford, they have 4x4 auctions on a Tuesday and you can view what they have online. I have heard some bargins go through there. As fer yer paint where are you to, cos I got a verbal quote for £500 on one of me landys

i waited for 6 months before i found my landy and it is mint £5500 300tdi and all the important bits Chasis bulkhead etc are in amazing condidtion plus it had a lots of mods that i wanted allready on plus the guy who had before work for a proper landrover dealer as a mechanic. so be patient and keep looking i found it on ebay but went to see and made offer outside of ebay.

eBay is a great place to sell or Buy I sold my
Freelander there the second people who came
to try offered me the right price and I stopped the
auction so you only had to pay listing fee's so
basically you got a good advert for little money
if anyone is going to sell always put your landline
in and that gives them confidence to come and see & buy

I know I am rambling and soon will get the wroth of Slop
down on me but in the end mine was a private buy and
was only a one family owned from new 90 found mine
in the Classified of the Land Rover Monthly after seeing
a lot of dealers who were asking the earth and some
eBay ones that were rubbish but in the end don't bid
on eBay for anything you have not tried and tested yourself

Good Luck take your time and you will find the right one

Hi Bradj999,

Where did you get the quote for £500? Was it a proper respray job?

Land Rovers run very well on vegetable oil - since vegetables normally own them. I'd buy a Toyota if I was you - but then I have !

Spraying it camouflage would be a good idea - you have more chance of losing it this way and more chance of the Americans blowing it up by "mistake". (don;t have orange stripes on the roof - this only winds them up).

I wonder how much his Toymota would be worth after being pushed a few hundred yards by my 90...

Would certainly cost him a lot to have it recovered :D
