I've had a leak since time immemorial, I had the headlining out, sealed the sunroof drains, sikaflexed them on etc.

Was ****ing about in the engine bay yesterday and spotted a a little rusty hole behind the thin metal pipes that run along the back of the engine bay, behind and slightly to the right of the fuel filter. I did a google search and someone said they had something similar behind the gutter under the windscreen and theirs rusted from the inside out.

This would explain the strong smell when I use my washers.

So question is, how do I get into it? Can I get in to that area by removing the dash? Can I just rust treat and fill or should it be welded if that is the problem?

You should be able to get to the area your on about by removing the dash. You may have to move a few brackets/wiring etc but cant imagine that will be too difficult. Just make sure you put all your screws for the dash in a safe place as i lost half of mine
Ive just had mine out so heres a picture :) hope it helps.

hahahaha simples!

Just take the engine out, no bother

I'm actually confused about how the hell you would even get into it even with the dash out. I don't think it can be accessed properly from the engine bay, I mean there is a small hole developing coming into the engine bay but I think this is a symptom rather than a cause.

I was wrong earlier taking about the plastic as the hole I can see is below this but the water must be coming from above.

This isn't an actual photo of mine but for illustration purposes, the hole seems to be rusting from inside out in the area of this red circle to the side of a thick rubber hose goes that between the cabin (I assume) and the engine bay.

So dash out will let me into the back of there we reckon?

Taking the engine out is pretty easy anorl to be honest only took me half a day and im certainly no mechanic. :p

As for getting to it from the cabin most of what you see in the picture i posted is just brackets lots of messy "land rover stylee" wiring and a mahoosive heater/blower.

I reckon if the heater/blower was removed (would mean youd have to drain your coolant) it will give alot more access to the area you circled. Then just move wiring out the way etc. Simples ;)
