Sooo much negativity, how's about a thread where we discuss why we choose to own/drive a Disco?

Here's my reasons:

1. Fantastic Load-carrying and Trailer-towing tool.
2. Look forward to snow/flood/bad weather...the Disco loves it!
3. A bit of green laning when the mood takes you.
4. As a mountain-biker & climber it's a perfect base.
5. British Land Rover Badge pride (LR is a fantastic world-wide icon)...it's THE real 4x4...the rest are imitations...
6. Quality & Reliability (imho...it's the best car I've owned, still a tidy car after almost 7 years).
7. DIY enthusiasts tool (I enjoy doing some of my own servicing, and I find the Disco easy to work on).
8. I ALWAYS enjoy driving it.

Well there you go...The troll's will shred me in no time!

Yeah lets all be positive !!
but there is a VERY fine line between "diy enthusiast" and "whats going to be the next pain in the backside failure"!!!

I like my V8 because:

it sounds great
it is as fast as I ever need it to be - which is faster than anyone ever expects it to be
it takes the family with loads of room to spare for the'essentials' like a zooful of soft toys
I don't have to worry about it being dirty - it looks good dirty
it pulls my caravan with no effort
I really like driving it..
its warm and comfy
I can have a go at greenlaning and possibly off roading later
it is british but hasn't been ruined (yet) by the government

1. That depends what you were use to, the RRc has more room and has the same wheel base. Better if you don't have seats in the boot.
2. A time when most accidents happen and the disco is not immune.
3. That comes as standard with any 4x4 off roader.
4. Ok if your happy with that.
5. So is Toyota, also was not a Land Rover an imitation of a Jeep.
6. Not every owner is so lucky, even now with the Discovery 3.
7. Certaintly with a D1 but only the basics on a D2.
8. And so say all of us :p

so what do you like about yours then?

****ed on his fireworks then!
Discool appears to be a 'glass is half empty' kinda chap then? If you don't enjoy your discovery, sell it.

This poor chap is just trying to lighten the mood of the forum when most people are talking about problems. Good on you mate. I agree, Disco's are ace!!

p.s. To say ' land rover was an imitation of a jeep' is a wee bit harsh

Here's what I like about mine...
  1. Good value for money. Paid £3995 a year ago
  2. Have had quite a few 'nice car' comments.
  3. 3 proper seat belts in the back for the kids
  4. the size of the boot and general roominess of the interior
  5. cheap used parts on ebay
  6. Some new parts are cheap eg headlights (exclude hubs, fuel pump)
  7. Year 2000 so not affected by car tax hike (so far!)
  8. very easy to do routine servicing
  9. Engine fitted to Defender also, so 2 places to look on forums for stuff.
  10. It's got a timing chain
  11. the tuning potential with a remap
  12. You can use a Nanocom on it
  13. the fuel consumption isn't too bad for what it is,
  14. the RAVE manual
  15. the climate control
  16. the way it doesn't stall if you don't use any throttle in 1st and reverse (mines a manual)
  17. The air suspension keeps her level when I'm towing my boat
  18. the ACE cornering system
  19. The curry hook in the passanger footwell,
  20. the power socket in the boot
  21. Wife is afraid to drive it so it has remained dent free!
  22. and my fave, the power fold door mirrors:)

I love my Disco 2 ES V8 manual with LPG by Prins! equivalent of 30mpg and none of the dreadful noise and clatter and awful smell associated with heavy oil:D

Seriously though, V8 with LPG is much better than TD5 isn't it?

If that doesn't get a discussion going nothing will :)

As Ive said before, I think that my TD5 Disco is great.

Ive had a few problems with it since Feb, all of which, ( with help from the wealth of knowledge from places like here ), I,ve been able to sort out myself.

To put it into perspective;

I had a brand new VW T5 Transporter and in 3 years it had had 22 separate repairs !! ( only did 35,000 in it ). 2x gearbox at £ 3500 a go, 2x turbo,s at £ 1480 a go, drivshafts, water pump, steering column x 5 or 6 !!!.

If you,re useless with the spanners then perhaps the Land Rover marque is not for you, but I,m well chuffed with mine !.

I,d say the most important thing about a Disco is making sure you buy the right one !!.

This is obviously aside from all the usual pluses of the Discovery.

No, it was inspired by, and an improvement on, a Jeep.
