Thicker engine oil

Hi everyone just a quick question everytime i start my freelander td4 after it's been standing a while i get a good plume of blue smoke I'm presuming it's the valve stem seals I'm using 10/40 engine oil at moment i was wondering if i used slightly thicker engine oil would it benefit me at all if so what oil would be the best

No, thicker oil won't cure it.
The only for cure leaking stem seals is to replace them. This will only cure the problem, if it's the stem seals at fault. There's always an amount of oil in the air intake system, ejected from the turbo. This does find it's way down into the intake ports, after the engine has been switched off for a while, creating a characteristic blue puff at start up.
I'd ignore it myself, as long is it doesn't smoke once warm.

Thanks for getting back to me Nodge68 it only smokes on start up after that i get no smoke at all mate it does start up a bit lumpy at first but after a couple of minutes its running great

Mine was doing the same I ignored it for years,then start running ruff for a few seconds.The last few months it got worse I changed the injectors and two were well clogged up with carbon gunk put some good second hand ones in off a rover 75 and it’s cured it.

Mine where,which I was surprised at everything in normally a pain in the arse on the car I just got the engine warm first,other people have had to use pullers on them,I would get them tested first though make sure you’re not wasting your money.
