Hi all
I posted a couple of months ago regarding a lack of power from my wife's TD4 when pulling away & on hills. A diagnostic check reported no faults!! Armed with infor from you guys, I asked the mechanic to check the air flow meter out; result - one new meter fitted & it went like a sports car (comparitevely!). I now realise the meter was faulty when my wife bought the blo**dy car 2 years ago as it's never gone so well!
It's been running fine but then last week I noticed that thick black smoke will occasionally belch from the exhaust, accompanied by a slight drop off in power; almost like lifting off the accelerator slightly. This happens when cruising at a constant speed but the smoke is also bad when accelerating. What's happened now? has the new air meter thrown a wobbly or has the thing developed yet another fault? I have rather a lack of confidence in the local specialists as I find it hard to understand why they should need prompts from the customer when the diagnostics don't tell them what's wrong. My wallet hasn't yet recovered fromt the bills for the new air meter & 2 new fuel pumps I've had to have fitted since February; is there no end to the expense with these things?

Check simple things first ,turbo air hoses with a small hole is a good one or collapsed hose ,a new air filter can work wonders, clean that connection on the maf, could have ****e in it and intermittent signal, and remember its bin like a old dog fer two years but now ya back ta how it should be other problems could now surface, so don't panic check the simple stuff. . . best oh luck. . . .:)

Hi Richard!
The problem with the diagnostics kit is that it dont just plug in to yer motor and show any/all the faults up,the operator has to go looking for the faults,So if hes bin on the **** the night before and cant be arsed,Its an hours rest for him. Know wot i mean;)
With yer smoky bit and having a new maf fitted it might be worth checking the plugs on correctly,I know if i disconect mine it chucks out smoke under heavy acceleration, Just a thought!

Afternoon Mr ming!

no there is no end to the expense!!! keeps me in a job

its probably a turbo modulator thats playing up now

Hi all, bit late in replying but it turned out to be a 20mm split in the turbo feed hose. Easy fix but I think 25 quid is a tad expensive for an overgrown radiator hose! still, all is back to normal again although I can't help but wonder for just how long!
