They can go offroad

Well I'm not sure what that adds to the argument......
Err..... yeah! Frisbies can go off-road..... but then so can a 2CV or VW Beetle!
Give the chap credit for having a go, and showing what can be done in a Hippo, if you set it up right......
But I think the clip proves the point just as conclusively, that it would work a darn site better if it had a low range box...... I mean, he was setting it up nicely to make best use of 'momentum' (or lack of it)..... but the thing just didn't want to go that slow.... and how many times did he stall it?
 
As Teflon says, can't go slow enough, stalling too often, and I'd add not enough suspension movement or break-over angle to really go too far off-roading.

Should be (and are!) reasonable at green-laning, providing the green lanes aren't too rutted .. but they are not (without severe modification) good off-roaders!!

...and I actually like Freelanders ... ;)
 
Our main "car" is a frizzibie and i do enjoy driving it, the deisel engine is lively, good ride height, economical etc etc BUT its not an offroader, greenlaning maybe but not offroad, we have the disco for that:)

I'm not really arguing, i agree that they aren't proper off-roaders, but in the right hands they can handle some of the rough stuff.
Niether a 2cv or a beetle could do that.

We were at Grasby quarry with the Lincs Landrover club a few years ago when the 4x4 2cv boys had arranged a trial. Their light weight really made short work of anything even a properly kitted Defender could manage! Driver input and the need to drive correct lines also meant that they are real 'fun' to drive and very rewarding. ;)
