A couple of years ago I was side swiped by "Mr white van window fitter man" with one of these on.
It tore through my bike faring leathers and my leg.
Why "O" Why are they not banned? This is just an image I have used not who or what was involved in my event.

Thats your prerogative but if a driver is aware of the size of his vehicle and makes allowance for it, then there is little chance of an accident. The same goes for any driver of any vehicle.

mick, Automotive design engineers are compelled to design vehicles that meet stringent safety standards. If the appendages like the one in the photograph were fitted to the vehicle prior to the safety test it would not be passed fit for sale (would not meet construction and use regulations).
Why because it would be deemed as unfit for use on public roads.
Now why is that the racking system can be fitted after the vehicle is manufactured eg altering the construction of the vehicle? ( at this point do not say because it is safe because it is not safe)

As in traffic where lanes merge etc. I am almost always let in.
People will more often than not let me out as well.
Whereas in my van l used to get afforded no courtesy at all.
I think that Defenders are not seen as a "threat"
However my wife when driving her 90 often gets bullied by male drivers in BMW's, Audis etc, or they try. I think it's the "woman in a 4x4" syndrome that's seen as a threat to their manhood.

I notice the ebay seller has pulled the item. I wonder if this forum directed their conscience?

You are absolutely correct little issues when driving a defender.
I try to drive at all times correctly I know to some it may be boring to some but with the amount of traffic currently on the roads I get there just and quickly and without stress. I have lost count of the number of times I see cars flash past swapping lanes to gain another pass then at the next traffic jam (and there are plenty of them) I pull up behind them because the cars they passed have turned off to other directions. It is fun to see the frustration on their faces.
