too right raz!!
gunna try that penny thing that's been posted- worth a pee after all the time and money I've already spent on the fookin thing!

soon as i finished writing i was outside with a penny, stuck it in went round the block and guess what!................. still squeaks!!!!!
thought i was on to something as i used that same penny on a scratch card 2 mins before and won a fiver! ill keep it in it might bring me luck

need to fix this so i can get some sleep!
going back to my first thoughts on the problem-some bearing.
don't think it would be the turbo bearing because from what Ive been told i would have smoke by now(bout 600 mile its been doing it)
now the fan is off i have more room so i will be doing the water pump soon as i have a day to get stuck in.
anyone know of any other bearings that have been known to die before the rest of the motor packs up? there is slight belt noise now because I've fooked about with it so much and a slight whirring from the pulley the fan used to belong to- apart from that nothing that stands out when stood with the bonnet up
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

timing belt idler and or tensioner.?? or did yer try this? cant remember if yer did?
no mate not yet, wanna eliminate the more 'external' if you know what i mean possibilaties first before i go down that road.
might just be me getting my hopes up and convincing myself that its my next try- the water pump but i have the little whistle of what could as you say be one of the timing components but the screech seems to come in over the top of that sound rather than the whistle getting louder if that makes sense?
i think it is a bit louder at normal running temp than cold witch is why I'm swaying towards the water pump again?? but like i say that could be me hoping that its the next job i do! :)

At this point I would like to chuck in my two penath and state that daza has the patiance of a saint. By now id have set fier to the b^^^^^d and would have been found in the corner of me workshop either a gibering idiot or I would have cut me wrists more power to your elbow hope you bottom it soon . We who keep discos mine is an old 1990 very last century are masokists .

wouldn't have thought so but you never know its possible with all the rain and puddles we've had lately!
what sort of damage would that cause if water got in?

well........ water and bearings???????? do the math! ;)

as yella would say......."theres a slight lack of lube ere"!
know water and bearings dont go- thought they might be other damage to be done?
been away in it for a few days, the screech is no worse but theres a 'metallic' whistle now when idling from behind the casing and gets louder when revved. so must be in there then!
how big or t**t of a job is it? never messed with anything to do with the timing before

seek professional help if yer unsure, a garage should charge about 200 quid for new timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner and gaskets, its all gonna be done, screech will be sorted, and you will be a happy bunny so dont be tight! :p

timing belt kit ordered:D
got professional help coming to me!!!!:D finally got my cousin to give me a hand with it! (LR mechanic after all!) he did take a look before but unable to pin point the problem without spending loads of brass on there fancy machines! :p so hopefully it will be sorted by the weekend:D :) :D

that's what i said!!! apparently they don't use a broken hammer shaft any more to seek out noises its clips and sensors! was near impossible to locate the sound before while stood still and it started the same day as the cooler clean so i- and him were looking in the wrong areas!!
timing kit is on its way from paddocks so hopefully it should be sorted at the weekend, then i can get started on all the other stuff i came across while looking for the fookin screech!
think ill start with the rattley window that Ive had my head hanging out of for the past few week trying to work out what every rattle, bang and squeak was!! :D

sorry to keep bringing this back up- you lot must be as sick of the subject as me by now.
