hello,

disco has been sounding like a bench saw for some weeks, thought it was the turbo bearing but i think it would have gone bang by now.
a mechanic has said that he doesnt think its belt or anything related to it noise, but going against that I'm replacing the tensioner bearing tomorrow.
if no change i think it could be the water pump.....

is there any signs i should look for with the pump as a give away that its sh**ged? - just noticed a small dribble from the filler tank cap when i squeeze the hoses.

any help???? :)

could possibly be leaking out the front casing, engine temp running a bit warmer? if yer going down that rd it could be tensioner idler, i'd throw a cam belt on while i was there and replace the gaskets aswell.

real bad day!!!!

changed the tensioner bearing today-no change so got a new water pump, tried to fit it but couldn't because the bolts on the pulley below the pump (think its the pas pump) have rounded off:mad:
now I'm starting to think it might not be the water pump at all because i can here a slight whistling around the fan area!
know idea - cant do the pump -cant see where the noise is from!
now to top it off the engine temp is running at normal half way but no heat through the vents!!!!!! so i must have done something wrong somewhere!

cold, confused, ****ed off and bleeding!
any help PLEASE:)

Have you any idea whereabouts the squeak is coming from? If it's from behind the engine, or underneath when the car's moving, it could be something like the propshaft UJ's or the tranny box? My transfer box (i think) squeaks like a box of pigs when i'm accelerating!

If the coolant is low and is being lost through no visible means then you may have a head gasket issue (the coolant gets evaporated out the exhaust!) but if the heater stops working it's a sign that the coolant is low, so where it's going needs to be checked. How much of a leak from the pump do you have - the odd drip or a complete refil every coupla days? Dunno if that's related to the squeak though!

If you get a dribble from the filler cap by squeezing the hoses then when the coolant is at temp and under pressure it may well be above boiling point (at ambient pressure) and will easily force its way out of the filler cap and evaporate - this could even be part of the noise you're hearing. The coolant system needs to be air(and water)tight as it works under pressure at working temperature, and this includes the filler cap.

sorry should explained better (fingers n mind still numb from being out in the cold all day!)
lost the coolant today when i tried to do the pump, mustn't have topped it up properly-didn't know it effected my blowers when it was low!

tried to swap the water pump because someone has told me it could be the bearing that's in there that's bolloxed? i will have to try other things now to see what the noise is because the pump will be a job for the garage now!!
it originally started the bench saw noise when i flushed the intercooler so i thought it had something to do with that- air leaks or the turbo but there fine, been told it could be now its running at full pressure its caused something else to play up

can i get just the cap or is it the whole tank? or will that plumbers tape do!:D

also wouldn't slingin the fan cause more cooling problems:eek:

Try plumbers tape (more likely do better with silicone sealant let go dry) - unless you can get the gasket - else just go down the scrappys and get a new lid for it - have a look, it might just be that the gasket's not seated centrally or something! It does need to be airtight though.

worth a try then, can always put it back on if it dosnt cure it. i use the car every day as a family car as well as a toy and pull a trailer at the weekend- still be ok with no fan?
