Hi,

I guess it's about time to change coolant on my 1996 TD300 Discovery. I found a nice generic advice on how to change coolant but realised soon enough that none of that applies to me :D

Obviously there's no drain plug on the radiator? Right? Then I found this Land Rover Repair: flushing coolant on a Discovery I, radiator hose, expansion tank but nothing seems to make any sense. I cannot find the drain plugs on the engine block, mainly I think, because I dunno where to look.

Besides, I read another source that said not to tamper with the drain plugs!

Another source said not to remove the thermostat.

Removing the hoses seems an absolutely crazy crazy crazy idea! They can crack, snap etc... but I guess there's no other way.

So what is the proper way of changing coolant?

Ignore the square drain plugs it references and just follow the rest. Ive had my rad off and on several times and the hoses are fine.

Just take expansion tank cap off and remove bottom radiator hose. It should all pour out.

Put all hoses back on. take plug out of thermostat and fill from there.

ok, thanks, that's what I'll do.

Regarding the brass plugs, I got a pair of shiny ones already. Those plastic knobs do look extremely dodgy!
