It is a bit louder, but I don't find it too much of an issue, probably more noticeable on long motorway journeys. I can live with it for the added grip on the lanes :rolleyes:

I don't think mine have a switch, they just fold in/out by hand, but I'll double check

If you have folding mirrors it's the same switch you use to adjust your mirrors in or out. Just centralise the switch and push downwards. It would have an arrow pointing down on the switch if you have the folding function.
 
*UPDATE*
Not done much mechanically recently, mostly just trying to actually use it and see what it can do. Making the most of the local green lanes where I can and giving it a healthy splattering of mud ;) Also trying to grasp a figure of mpg, so far its not looking overly great, was wondering if anyone wold have some suggestions as to why this could be? I mean, I'm not exactly driving it the most economical manner, but it'd be nice if it was a bit higher than what it is at the minute :p, I'm guessing its not getting more than 20ish, but will confirm this when I fill it up can can work it out properly

I'm getting near to 40 mpg on mine. However, when it went into MOT a few weeks ago they found a small diesel leak from the fuel filter. There was no evidence of it on my drive. The lads at the garage said it was only obvious whilst the engine was on tick-over and up on the ramp. Try putting a newspaper beneath the rear offside and leave it ticking over for a few minutes.
 
The TD4 (M47R) seems quite sensitive to how it is driven, and specifically how many rpm it is being asked to run at. Keep it under 2k rpm, and you'll get 40+ mpg (my ZTT will do 42-45mpg on a run - albeit driving like Miss Daisy).

But fuel consumption into the 20s may reflect urban driving (loads of stop start in a heavy-ish car will do this). But a knackered MAF will wreck fuel consumption. The standard Bosch items aren't particularly durable, and that is what I'd look at first. I am not sure that your engine is EOBD compliant - if not there are plenty of Rover and Land Rover diagnostic tools that will provide you with the evidence you need :)
 
PS I am still very tempted to get a set of modulars having seen these pictures! LOL One thing I didn't ask you is the size/profile of the tyres? They look wider than the standard 215/65R16s?
 
I get just under 30 Mpg out of my SE auto TD4. I don't drive economically however and when it's cold in the mornings, I'll use my FBH remote to warm the car too. This obviously will affect the Mpg to some extent.
I am also running on 225/60/17 Maxxis Bravo ATs which will also cause a drop in Mpg.

All the new hoses are now fitted in the engine bay, except I'm also getting a new radiator top hose because the existing one is a tad corroded...

Jobs to do/done currently at 40 and climbing (there are a couple of jobs with an increment). :confused: But the most recent one seemed to make the biggest difference to turbo boost/performance and that was replacing the vac hoses. I have two TD4's and they both had a vac hose worn right through so the turbo can't have been operating properly. It connects to the vacuum reservoir which is to the right of the engine as you're looking into the engine bay and runs to the front of the engine under the inlet manifold.

Yes I know the colour is hideous but I got a cheap set of silicone intercooler pipes which were green so.........
Anyway Loving the work so far and good luck with it.
 
*UPDATE*
Fitted some wind deflectors and also an air horn (because I am a yob...), will post pictures of this soon.
Also filled up and worked out fuel economy, my worries weren't realised - been getting about 34mpg, which I'm very happy with, especially considering I've been lugging it over some of the local green lanes and not driving overly economically :)
 
That's still on my to do list - hopefully will get it done this weekend, and if by doing so it improves the mg more then I'm not going to complain ;)
 
The air horn fitted...
Mounted a bracket in the front right hand side of the engine in front of the battery (above where one of the existing horns was (well, still is, it's only been unplugged)

Bit of an annoying week - one of the turbo hoses popped off for no apparent reason, reattached it, lots of black smoke and no boost. Couldn't find any splits in any of the easily accessible hoses so thought it might be something something a bit more sinister. Took it to a LR specialists around he corner from where i work to have a look at (after driving like an old woman not going above 2000 revs and thus about 45mph on the journey in...). Once they got their hands on it no issues at all, boost was all fine and to put it in their words, 'it goes like a rocket'. So a bit of a strange one, my theory is that when the turbo hose came off it went into a 'limp home' mode so was very sluggish, hence the worry when i drove it home after that. But still nice to know I'll be able to drive it again without caking the person behind in (too much) black smoke and I've got all my boost back ;)

lol. Yesterday I took the Freelander up for a warrant (MOT). The Starlet needed one as well and my son followed in that. We were running late as we'd been fiddling with bulbs in the Starlet, so I gave it plenty. After we dropped the cars off, Michael was really worried about the Freelander, he said to me "what's wrong with it... there was loads of smoke coming out of it" - L Series character :) I should really have a look at reducing the smoke at some point! Might start with a block of wood under the accelerator :)
