I've searched this on here and I found a few pages back from a couple of years ago and I cant make a decision from what was said, has the TDCI Puma proved to be reliable or is it junk?

I ask because I want to buy a 110 or a 130 double cab to go to Morocco in it, would I be better to get a low mileage TD5 and thus giving myself more budget to modify OR do I buy the newest TDCI I can find?
The prices seem to be all over the place with 59 reg Pumas being not much more money than 54-55 reg TD5s, I prefer the sound of the TD5 I must admit.

I appreciate that this has been asked before but I wondered how the Puma has aged with regards to problems and any truth in whats been said about the build quality?

Looking to spend around 15k, less for a TD5.

On the 110's I have been looking at TD5 XS models
Dunno, thoughts and opinions please.

The only problem I have with the pumas, has nothing to do with the engine itself. The problem for me is the the dash, it just seems really claustrophobic in there compared to the td5.

TD5. The mechanic who sorts my Landy when its beyond my skills had his brothers Puma in 3 times because the injectors shook themselves loose damaging the actual engine. (Ill check this to be certain)

+1 on the dash, feels tiny inside.
A 2007 TD5 would probably be your best bet

Yes, a late, low mileage TD5 will sort you out nicely. By the end of the production run they'd ironed out most of the early engine faults. In standard tune it's not particularly stressed, so should last you a long time.

The TD5 is an excellent lump, but take a spare injector loom (pretty cheap) and a crank sensor and that are the main spares.

A mild remap will help economy as well. TD5s are tough they are around 140bhp in Discoverys, 122bhp in Defenders. As an example tuned road TD5s are similar power to race TDCis.

Tdci is also a good buy, very reliable transit lump. Much more refined, six speed box keeps revs low on long journeys. I had 3 Td5's and a 2.4 and 2.2 tdci, prefer the 2.2 tdci over all others.
