So atm everythin on my old D2 seems to be fixed and it is driving great, except for the Engine Vibration :(

Reading a very long (40 odd page thread) and now half way through it, where nothing seems to cure an Engine Vibe in an Automatic TD5 D2, I came across this post ....

"Don't forget that only the killer combo of a Td5 AND ZF autobox leads to these horrid vibes. Td5 Defenders rattle & shake enough as they are, but lack the harmonic vibes. During the summer holidays I met the head mechanic of Belgiums biggest Land Rover dealership and chatting about this subject he mentioned 2 treatments that they were using: swap the injectors around (so inj. 1 moves to pos. 2, inj. 2 moves to pos. 3, inj. 3 to pos. 4 etc. and/or by replacing the 3rd character in the injector code with a J and the 4th with an N for all injectors. Doing so will instruct the ECU to inject the max amount of diesel and by doing so reduce the vibrations... Have not tried it yet but the re-coding is done quickly enough. Will give it a try this weekend and keep you posted!"

Anyone who knows the D2 / Auto / TD5's care to comment please ??? ............

In particular changing the 3rd and 4th digits of the Injector Codings ;)
Maybe if that is a 10P ECU I should buy and try a 15P one ? (I know Auto and manual differ btw) ;)

Final thing, does anyone know, will a 15P Engine run ok / plug into a 10P ECU / Wiring ...........

My car has the later 15P Engine, but I don't know if whomever have swapped it's ECU, my ECU is a MSB101192 in case that helps ;)

PO who had all the work done is no help as he died before I got the Car :(

TIA Dave

Need more of an accurate description of what type of vibrations you are getting, at what revs/speed/ gear they occur.
But the TD5 does have a well known engine vibration at about 2250 revs if memory serves.
You get used to it!

It's not awful, and I am a fussy git ;)

Yes I can feel that "typical of TD5 Disco 2 Auto" 2300 - 2600 vibe, but that isn't the issue. I could live with that ;)
What I feel is there hot or cold, from idle all the way up to the rev limiter, it is better at higher revs. It is definitely Engine speed as Car can be parked in P, or N, Handbrake on, nothing in the drivetrain moving.
It is not a rattle noise, I've got rid of the niggly rattles now, it is definitely a Harmonic, a Vibration as opposed to a noise ;)
It is there when in motion as well, as you'd expect, it is no different a Vibe though when in motion, definitely Engine related ;)

First thing I did was change the Engine Mounts and Trans Mounts, the Engine mounts were FUBAR and that probably halved the Vibration but it is still there.
I get customers here with the exact same Vibration fault here a lot on their Mercesdes, and every time they all get 2 Engine Mounts and the single Trans Mount and it completely cures them.

Problem is I have never driven any other D2 TD5 Auto or Manual, all my other cars are sweet as a nut, I have nothing to compare this one to :(
Whilst I'm no gambler I am certain that they never came from the factory this way ;)

I did have a Defender 110 TD5 with 38,000 Miles on it (manual as per factory) and that never did it, that vehicle drove really sweetly ;) That said, yes since reading that 41 page thread I realise that all the guys complaining of the 2300 - 2600 vibration say it is peculiar to D2 / TD5 / Auto recipe ;)

Disco 2 has no Air Susp, and no ACE.

I'm now at that crossroads, do I just put up with it, and stop wasting my money on parts for the sake of it, or do I spend another load of time and significant amounts trying genuine LR Mounts, Genuine Harmonic Balancer, an Ashcroft Converter and Drive-plate set up, perhaps buy an NNN ECU, (I want to remap it anyways).

Parts here and things left to try, Fit Injector Harness, Adjust Injector Bump, Note Injector Codings and see if they are right or wrong in the ECU which is MSB101192, and I don't know if that is a 15 P ECU or not ???????????????? ;)
This car was retrofitted with a 15P low miles Engine and I can't find out how to tell if they fitted the 15P ECU, some say it matters not, some say they run like a bag of poop, again, I have no way of comparing it.

In a nutshell, the Car drives lovely, and is a pretty good example now, plus I like driving it, but I know the Vibe shouldn't be there, and it annoys the naff out of me ;)
I have so far spent about £3300 on this Car to date, that I can live with. I really don't think that I want to end up with £4-5k in it though, as it stands right now, 2 - 3 years use and it will have paid for itself ........................

I really don't know what to do with it ;)

Amazing what you can find with a quick search!!

Thank You :)

I did search, and I did see that thread as well as some others, what I can't find is a definitive list of all ECU's ...............

My Car is an Auto Trans model, and it is fitted with MSB101192 ECU, that guy in the linky has Manual.
What I really cannot find out is whether that particular ECU is fine for the 15P Motor or not. I do know that 15P uses different Injectors, and I don't know if I can get the current ECU to accept 15P Injector Codes, haven't done the harness yet so don't know the Codes that are in the Engine. Also according to some guys there is a few extra wires on 15P and the Ambient Air Sensor has extra connectors ;)

If my ECU isn't suitable then I need to get an NNN500030, NNN000130, and possibly a NNW500140 will work with 15P and Auto Trans ;)

I'm just doing my research atm because I just don't want to buy any more parts that either aren't suitable or won't make any difference, I hate playing Parts Darts ;)

15p uses a different map but you can use an adapted 10p map on them. Similarly, a 10p msb ECU could be running a 15p just fine, if mapped accordingly. My 15p runs an nnn with a maf delete map which effectively is a modified 10p map. The only way to test your theory is borrow an auto nnn ecu and see how it runs. A standard msb ecu will run like crap on a 15p. Mastaz does an msb that runs a 15p. http://www.mastaz.co.uk/td5msbnnn.htm
I cured bad vibes with a new centrifugal oil filter, but i was maybe lucky. They spin at over 20k RPM so if off balance can vibrate badly. Fit a new one maybe as its cheap and 10 min job.

Thanks :)

It was doing this Vibe when I first drove it before I got it, I put it down to Engine Mounts.
It had Full service with decent OEM Filters etc including the Centrifugal Filter, plus new Engine Mounts and remained the same, although the pattern mounts did improve things a fair bit.

Since then I found it had Oil wicking from the Injector loom, cleaned out all the Oil from ECU plug and it is now almost gone. Now today I have changed the Injector loom, will finish that tomorrow and re code / check the Injector codes match what is in ECU.

From some stuff I've read, and assuming it is still as it was yesterday, it is possible I should buy genuine Engine Mounts to completely cure it (hopefully) ????
Some guys are saying that the cheaper ones, (JGS Britpart) are harder than stock ones ............. IDK

If all else fails I'll just have to try a Torque Converter and Drive Plate job ;)
