I had to drop my 7 year old off at Karate this morning and we used a new focus.
She looked all excited, so I asked why? she said its because you see loads of these so we can wave at all our "friends"!! Bless her she is used to the defender and having to do with only spotting one or two each morning!

It's those innocent comments from the little'uns that make life worth living - love it, really cheered me up! :)

Is there any seasonal variation? I think there's more waving in the summer months but more stopping to help people at the side of the road with the bonnet up in the winter. What's your experience?

Or could it be related to sunspot activity or climate change? We've had a solar minimum lately, and a strong positive Antarctic sea ice anomaly.

As the defender is stuck at work I am just about to go pick her up in her Mums Lotus Elise S1 now if we spot another of those we stop and have lunch together!!!!

I think summer you wave more as on the drive in to work and home its light so I do not have to squint to see using the fantastic headlights!! and also I am not freezing under a blanket and hat!
At the moment I am seeing about 4 defenders each day on my way to work I reckon out of all 3 will give a wave and at least two are clearly work vehicles so wouldn't expect it from them

I think in the summer more people are driving around scenic areas for fun - I notice this in Wales, the York moors, the Lake District and places like that. So they're in a more lighthearted mood maybe.

I always wave at any one in a offroad Rig (Not a 4x4, something clearly modified for offroading), I normally get a wave back from anyone else driving a Jap Wagon, Sadly because I'm in a Mitsubishi a lot of Landrover owners round here won't wave back, You anti-social buggers

(I used to own a landrover too :( )

Can't The Mitsibishi wont fit, Door is only Defender Sized and has a 90Degree bend before it. My Japanese aircraft carrier sized truck lacks the turning circle. ;)

I just waved at a guy in a navy blue Freelander 1 in Newmarket. Lifted, roof light bar, black rims & mud tyres, snorkel etc.. Anyone on here?
