Since my Rangey is a 51 plate 2.5 diesel I will be hammered under the new ved rules.:(
What happens if I put in an engine from a 2000 year model will my emissions have to be rated on that engine which being pre April 2001 goes on a flat rate?:) or does it go on the age of the vehicle.:(
If so what happens if I fit a smaller engine? should the ved then go down?
Anyone any ideas as no one else seems to know

whats your reg no' (pm it to me please) i am sure it was changed again(i think) have you had your renewal yet?

There was a piece on TV last year about a ciouple of peopele with none standard engines (from new, one was a grey import, the other ExPolice) they didn't go into detaisl, but they were being hammered.
What "dreaded new VED" are you worried about, not the one that was dropped before Christmas?

ironic I went out of my way to by a 1998 POS and my 4.0 v8 costs less to tax than my 2001 car

I take it from your comment that the new rates are not going ahead??
Cant find anything about it...would be nice though coz i wouldn't mind a newer RR...then i could sell my nice diesel to Gav briggs in Rovrem to save him repairing his shed...:biggrin1:

Sorry Gav....couldn't resist!

I may or may not be correct but I heard that it was going to be 2006 onward for the higher rate untill 2010 then went back to post 04 2001 for the tax on emissions.
Anyone clear it up?

I think it was buried under the news that VAT was being reduced, and so everyone in the retail trade was going to have lots of extra work to do.
