Following a warning message flashing up on the dash of my Freelander 2 saying Gearbox transmission traction reduced, I got my nice AA man to plug into the diagnostics and he came up with - Rear axle lock - B74 / Rear axle lock 4.0 P1889 - Transmission oil pump. Error message : short to +/ground, or open circuit. The dash warning has now vanished again.
I've heard that there is a possibility of a wiring fault exhibiting this sort of thing, but really don't have much of a clue. I'm from the era when you could open a bonnet, see the spark plugs and leads (yes, I know this is a diesel) and the only sensors on an engine were a temp gauge and an oil warning light.
Any chance that anyone can throw some more light on this, without blinding me with technical jargon?
