Well I've had the disco a week and I've already got two problems... (before anyone else.. yes it's an MPi so I guess I actually have three problems)..

anyway.. as stated its a 2ltr MPi.. fitted with a LPG conversion..

no. 1 Up until today its been running perfectly on gas or petrol.. but for some reason today (raining).. when coming of the throttle (clutch in) it drops below the normal idle.. sometimes it recovers and settles.. other times it stalls... Also when the key is turned it fires but then dies.. unless you have your foot slightly on the throttle to keep the revs up.. It's doing it on on both gas and petrol (both tanks are over 1/2 full).. So I'm wondering.. trottle position sensor, crank sensor or something else? where to start?

No. 2 When I picked it up there was a noticable clonk from the transmission when letting the clutch out (changing up/down).. I found the front UJ was knackered and the rubber donut on the rear prop was breaking up.. so I figured it was most likely the combination of lash from these... I spent a few hours and about 50 quid replacing them with nice shiney new ones.. but alas the clonk is still there! I'm now suspecting the dreaded spline/main gear wear :( But have been told all might not be lost..(could still be A frame bushed etc) but in the worst case you can replace the main gear (if the shaft splines are not too worn) without taking the gearbox/transfer box out.... On my series Its a dodle to get at this area.. anyone done this on a disco?

Otherwise.. I'm loving disco ownership.. honest.. :)

Well your engine problem will probably be the throttle position sensor due to the fact that it controls the butterfly valve in the throttle body. If it has become inoperative it would prevent the car fro. Starting due to the lack of air getting into the engine until you open it with your foot. As for your other problem I'm stuck

Thanks Rooky.. thats where I'll start.

This morning the old girl has decided to develop the fault further.. and is acting more as if it is running out of fuel..(its not as the tanks are both half full) and is holding back, stuttering and as soon as you take your foot of the pedel feels like its trying to conk out (depending on revs/speed it does)...

This is frustrating to say the least.. As it was running perfectly until yesterday!

Gotta love older landies....

well apart from only having half the amount of cylinders you really need......... It sounds like the stalling part could be an air leak on the inlet side somewhere? ie the engines getting more air than it thinks its got so its not giving it enuff fuel to hold idle? or if its worse when its hot it could be the coil or ignition modual breaking down?

Hope that helps?

Sounds like it could be crap in the fuel system... LPG systems are very prone to clogging up because a lot of LPG is full of muck - especially if you are unlucky enough to fill up when the garages tank is nearly empty.. all the sludge is at the bottom. I had similar problems with my LPG conversion and had to have it serviced (cleaned) every year. It is normally worse in the cooler weather.
Not sure if this would cause a similar problem when you are on petrol though?

Also I had very erratic , lumpy tickover and discovered that one of the vacuum pipes had fallen off.... probably worth checking?

Thanks for the thoughts..

Well.. i'm stumped.. came home this evening.. turned key.. hey presto.. fine.. took it for a drive.. running fine on petrol but ****e on gas... so at least the petrol side seems okay again...

dum de dum.. hmmm.. Guess I'll strip and clean all of the intake, check for leaks and finally strip and clean the vaporiser.. cant do any harm...:D

I once had a Rover 420 with the same T series lump and had similar issues with it stalling and the idle all over the place etc etc
Very temperamental.... sometimes it would be good as new (Well, almost!)....other times you could barely drive the damn thing.

Turned out to be the Lambda sensor was donald ducked :)
