i also have a company that has depended on the mail, but royal mail dont have a monopoly

true for larger items but he imports & sells watch straps & they weigh bugger all - he sends em in a small jiffy bag, 1st class royal mail so there's no viable alternative for him

just copied this from his website

Royal Mail Deliveries

Telephone contact, order processing and dispatch have now been resumed - Thursday October 11th

However !

Customers are urged to bear in mind that until the current postal workers dispute is resolved in full disruption of all uk and international postal services will continue. I cannot guarantee orders placed / dispatched will not be subject to considerable delay (I think we can forget about next day 1st class delivery for some time yet so please bear this in mind when placing your orders on or after October 11th).

As expressing my personal thoughts regarding current events would serve no practical purpose I will refrain from airing my opinion here. However, I would just like to say that for small mail order operators like myself there is no cost effective alternative to Royal Mail to whom delivery of goods can be delegated and I therefore can only hope those charged with task of resolving the issues recognise that prolonged / ongoing industrial action really is going to hurt a lot of small uk business's . . .

"keep warm and don't neglect your fluid intake"

Best regards - Ken

i like the bit that says "I will refrain from airing my opinion here" and then does ......... :)

i say nationalize the PO, it ran fine when Mr Ben was running it

aye - when e were closed he had something a lot stronger than that ;)

I blame that Adam Crozier - e ****ed up the FA, now e's doing the same to the post office.

yep he's just another highly paid over qualified sweet talker who's never had dirty hands and who doesnt understand, or have any, common sense

When you become a President of a country, and have a big army, you need to go and have a war somewhere to prove how great you are. All presidents do it. Bush is a mega millionaire.

When you become a Prime Minister and have an army, you need to go and have a war somewhere to prove how great you are. All Prime Ministers do it. Blair is a millionaire now.

When you are boss of a big Trade Union, you need to make the memebers go on strike. Any reason (or no reason) will do - but you need to make them go on strike to show who is boss of the Union.

Arthur Scargill did it with the miners. The miners all lost their jobs, but Scargill is a millionaire.

That's how it works.

AS only tried stoping Thatcher doing to the miners what that FA reject is trying to do for the postmen, can't blame him for trying to look after the people who had elected him.

And they are STILL so stupid they will indeed end up doing to the PO what AS did for the miners.

But Crozier will end up being very rich just like AS Bliar and the rest of the so-called "Labour" party.

Try checking up on harriet Harman's background. Working class NOT.
But she's making her million fast ... under "New Labour".

and your solution to the PO issue is ? - or does everyone just accept everything without complaint these days ?

Like i said before if the dont like the conditions there will be plenty more people to tek their places. Its quite easy. Do you want a profitable efficiently run post office or no post office.

The postmen are n the same situation as the miners, Strike and people will just find alternatives to their products.....if they dunt like the conditions then go find something else to do because the longer they **** around the less chance they will still have jobs

there are things called employment laws in this country, these are designed to protect the employees, reducing peeps pay by changing peeps contract of employment isnt the way to bring a company out of a loss making situation - motivation combined with a living wage is, unforced pension reductions isnt

They should think themselves lucky they've got any pension at all after gordon brown and his feckwits have finished

Your treading on very dodgy ground there. Love him or hate him Scargill was right, the mines closed cos of government policy not cos they went on strike. I've mentioned Thatcher an her government before, is it only me that remembers paying 18% intrest rates on my mortgage, two an three day weeks, I could go on but can't be arsed I'm off to pub.

maggie thatcher the milk snatcher - me dad has a picture of her leaving number 10 for the last time with tears in her eyes pinned up on the back of the door of his outside bog - she'll not be missed

AS was a good bloke trying to do the right thing in my eyes ....

do you begrudge them the right to withdraw their labour ?

oh yes, its a public service and therefore striking should NOT be allowed, like the police force!
its not in any contract of emplyment, if you strike you get sacked, simple.
if you dont like your job or disagree with it leave and get a job you do like, if you want more money and a better pension go to mars as it aint gona happen in this country!
my brother in law has to work for a lot longer now than he thought as his pension has been plundered by the govenment as everyone elses has, he hasnt gome on strike!
come to think of it can anyone remember a strike that didnt include workers in a public service industry, i cant!
they get paid for a 37 hour week but get home for noon! i think the royal mail are after them actually working the hours there paid for! oh horror!
6.9% over 2 years but with a slight down side to the pension, welcome to the real world.
get back to work...................

p.s. the amount of companies taking there business elsewhere as the royal mail is now no longer reliable due to strike action will in the long run cause a laying off of workers, will they strike over this, how ironic if they do!

the postie will be out of work if he carries on striking, the royal mail only makes money from the parcel service, delivering letters is a loss maker andf always has been, why do you think there has never bneen an alternative. when the po go on strike the parcel deliveries are sent to an alternative suppliuer by the customers and if they decide to stick with the alternative then the po will not have any income to prop up the letter deliveries and then lets see the lazy postman pat ****s griping about being ouyt of work. they ought to think themselves lucjky they have a job. if its that bad, why dont they **** off and get a better job somewhere else. you only haveto look at the brittish motor industry. the only reason that declinred was because of the slovenly attitude by the lazy ****s that worked there, and when it all goes tits up, no doubt they will all blame someone else, same ith the miners. lets face it, these ****s have had it too good for too long, now they need to come into line with the real world they are asll moaning and crying. i say **** the postal service, we dont need it any more. we have the internet and email. we can do everything we want online these days so let em go oin strike and then tell em ter go and sign on seen as they have walked off the job.

agree with that Yella, except for the last bit cos there is no alternative to the 1st class letter service - never has been & never will be & the post office know that - that's the part that makes people suffer when they go on strike - lots of other delivery services but no other way to send a small item anywhere in the uk for less than 40p

as I said before my mate has built up a very sucessfull mail order service over the last 5 years - he sells hundreds of watch straps every week (from £5 to £30) it costs him about 50p to send each one (small jiffy bag & 1st class stamp) there is NO alternative delivery method for him - he reckons last weeks strike cost him about £2000 in lost business
