Very difficult if you do not have equipment that can detect the RF output, plus you would also need a data logger to see if the output is meaningful. I don't have the necessary kit so I cannot test the RF output of my non working FOB at the moment.[/QUOTE]

They might share how they do it. Marty has a board he made up with a couple of LEDs, iirc. It plugged into his laptop and that decoded the signal I think. Easier to just post it down I would imagine.

I only have the one key. I am trying to get a valet key cut so I can still use the car then, if the old fob is working,I will have a new one made, thanks

If you go into the RF module of the Nanocom it might say if a valid code has been received? Seem to remember seeing something like that somewhere.

You are right, but it says nothing if there is no signal, just the last "valid code received" message.

Yes Nanocom can clear the "valid code received" setting. Then press remote fob & check again.

ok, thanks, I will look int this and see if I can work out how to do that. Once I can establish that the key is working I can test the other bits and replace the faulty item

As Grrrr mentions - I have a fob tester to be able to read/check the fob code being transmitted from the key fob. Without having the BECM aswell though, I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's the same code as is stored in there though.
But unfortunately it isn't easily possible to do at home at the moment!
