I've been looking around on this site and others for the best bumper for my situation and I cant decide on the terriferma tublar, mantec box frame, or ARB. I want to throw either a 9000, or 12000lb warn winch on the defender with a good strong bumper.

Work around a farm and travel out west with my uncle and go to some remote places to do some long range shooting. I run into things and want to pull myself out instead of running back and getting the tractor. Also plan on doing some more off roading on my place and around the U.S. so a winch is a must.

I can buy all the bumpers listed over here in the U.S and wondering with all defender owners experience which ones you all prefer?? I'm leaning towards the ARB after hearing how strong they are, also is the 12000lb winch over kill?

thanks

i had the warn xd9000i on my last defender but as i run an external allbrite solenoid i didnt like the bridge over the top so i removed it

I definitely want the best winch I can buy like you say Wiltshire, Looking between the Warn heavy duty 12000lb or 9.5xp.

What do you think about the bumpers??? I'm not going to be going hardcore so I don't think I have to worry too much about the approach angles and all that stuff. From what I have read about the ARB bumpers they are supposed to be great protection, though this new one looks a little odd. (did the picture attachment work??)

Pic worked

That's one hell of a bumper lol. Looks like you could hit just about anything with that and not suffer damage. Great looking bit of kit.

I like Terrafirma, but prefer box section as more in keeping with original looks.

In my experience ARB bumpers do not have a great reputation in the US. Strength is not really there for recovery, and they seem to get damaged easily. I think they can be beat for less money. Look at Rovertym or Rock Ware.

TS888, do you have experience with Rockware or does anyone else on the sight??

Do you know what winches can be bolted on, or any other specs for them. I had a quick look on their site and it doesn't give too much info on them.

you can bolt most winches to any bumper its only really warn 8274's that you need to buy the proper bumper for or if your good with a welder you can just modify it to fit if the holes don't line up just re-drill them

the 9.5xp is a good winch

That's bloody aweful! Go for tubular cos that one looks a mess. My bumper is a bit of gas pipe. I challenge you to find any bumper stronger than my bumper.

Yea I really like the 9.5xp, also leaning towards either the terrafirma tubular or this Rockware one (hopefully pictured bellow....)

Does the terrafirma tubular give you good protection on the corners of the vehicle, I feel as though the larger box section bumpers will give better protection on the corners.

Also looking into the MileMarker hydraulic winches, anyone with experience with these? I like the idea of being able to use them fully submerged and not running hot like electric ones.
