Would rather not solder, but can if required.

Years ago you could get a straight connector made with solder inside and a heat shrink outer, fit over the stripped clean copper wire and heat with a fag lighter, solder melted just before the heat shrink so made the joint and sealed the cable in a few seconds, used them on plant trailers worked a treat dunno if you can still get them tho??

Yes i know what it is. Silicone grease smeared on the solder joint and covered in heat shrink is a lot better and neater job.
