Quick question about TD4 temperature sensors:

1) Almost everything related to temperature is controlled by the ECT sensor right?

2) In the e-box, there is what looks like a temperature sensor - is it one and if so, what is its purpose? What do its readings affect?

3) RAVE talks about there being an outside temperature sensor behind the bumper - would my TD4 have this, or is it replaced by the on in the e-box? (i i have a 2003 model). What do its readings affect?

Thanks :)

I would say that the external temp sensor mentioned in RAVE concerns only the fuel burning heater (FBH).

Ok, thanks - not sure i have one behind the bumper - to be honest i haven't looked. Don't have an FBH.

What i'm curious about then is the temperature sensor that is in my e-box - anyone know what that's for? When i disconnect it it doesn't seem to make any difference....can't find a mention of it in RAVE or on the net.

At least im 95% sure it's a temperature sensor.

The e box temp sensor is there to measure the temp of the e box, and hence if yer puter is hot. If it's above 37 degrees (if I remembers correctly) a fax in the e box will come on and circulate air from it to behind the dash. There's 2x 1 inch rubber pipes for the air from the e box to the bulkhead. Way to test it is switch off eninge when up to temp. Leave for 10 minutes. Switch on ignition, then off again. Fan will start to run as the engine heat has dissipated to e box so temp sensor ses it's hot enough to come on. Will still operate when car is locked/alarmed, and switches orf itself. Int Freelanders clever. :)

Ok that is in fact fiendishly clever :) thanks for the info - at least i know what it's for and won't keep wondering.

Never noticed any pipes to the bulkhead - shows how much attention i was paying :)
