Temp sensor thread

On the top of my 300tdi engine is a sensor, I presume thais was a head-temp connected to the EGR ?
Can I use that to detect the the water temperature ?

Does anyone know what thread it is ?
Does anyone know the thread size of the temp sensor on the side of the thermostat housing ?

I think someone does a kit for this (top sensor). I will see if I can find a link.
