Morning all,

Just wanted to ask if any one has an idea about what the following could be.

Every now and again, maybe 2 drives in 3. The temp guage dropsd down to Zero, and the fans kick in. Once car has stopped the fans carry on for 60 sec's or so. Then when engin turned back on, no fans and temp guage at mid where it should be. Butafter 5 miles or so, the fans kick in again.

No water loss BTW, and engin seams to be running fine and dandy.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks,

Phil

I would agree, air in coolant circuit isthe most likely cause.
Air collects at the highest point in the circuit unless it is trapped in the heater matrix.
As the engine warms the air expands considerably, depressing further the water level, driving the water into the expansion tank. Check this by comparing the level in the tank firstly when the engine is cold and then immediately the fan comes on. On cooling the air contracts and the cycle starts again.
It is important to follow the instructions for filling the radiator carefully, especially the removal of the air bleed screw in the heater circuit and set the heater control to max. Fill slowly. Squeezing the rubber hoses can also help to expel air.

Thanks a million guys, I'll check the above tomorrow and see how I get on.

I may be back,,,,,...
